Yep, I noticed the stainless Colt SAA's on Davidson's site a couple weeks ago. Pretty cool, if it and the New Frontier are as good as the late model SAA's, we should be in for a treat. STAINLESS IS ONLY IN THE PLANNING STAGE AND WOULD BE LATE NEXT YEAR AT THE EARLIEST. IF ME AND THE VP HAVE OUR WAY IT WILL BE A S.S NEW FRONTIER

I haven't yet fallen under the "Colt Mystique". Doubt if I will. I'm a pretty is, as pretty does, kinda guy. They have raised prices along with everyone else, but offered nothing new, making the bulk of their money off 3 tired old designs. There are better designs available in all three classes. Don't expect this opinion to be popular. Its your money. Oh, the designs ? S.A., 1911, and M-16 types. As I said, this won't be a popular opinion. If I hit the lotto, would buy some to have pcs of history. steve b I think you'll find very little "Colt mystique" around here. Most folks are pretty realistic about them. Except for that short time that they were around $2000 retail, SAA's have been around $1200 for quite a few years. I think most around here understand that USFA builds a better gun for less money but the fact is that Colt is trying to produce a better gun and so far, has been succeeding. The New Frontier is a wonderful sixgun, even as overpolished as most 3rd generation guns are and there is nothing preventing one from putting some holster wear on one and shooting the snot out of it. The fact that they're bringing it back speaks volumes about their desire to produce what 'we' want. I'll pay $1200 for a new 4¾".44Spl New Frontier, as well-built as their recent SAA's, in a heartbeat. Maybe this will also encourage USFA to get off their hinies and give us a real adjustable sighted SAA too! My 3rd generation .45 cuts tiny little 1" groups with a 250gr RNFP over 9.0gr Unique or a 275gr WFN over 16.0gr 2400. I haven't yet fallen under the "Colt Mystique". Doubt if I will. Question for Mr. Taffin: Is there any talk of adding 44 Spcl to the SAA caliber line-up?

cubrock, I think the cylinder mouths are 0.433-0.434. I size my bullets 0.432 for a good slip fit. I hope the new ones are put together a little better than my 3rd Gen Colt. My USFA Rodeos put the NF to shame when it comes to fit. I think Colt will do a good job if the SAAs I've handled lately are any indication.

Well if they build the new NF with the same quality as the last 5 third generation guns I've bought or even as nice as my 3rd generation NF (I got a good one) I'm in for a 4 3/4" 44spl and a 5 1/2" 357mag.

A new colt SAA costs about the same in real money today as it did over 100 years ago. A fifty dollar gold piece would buy you a new Colt SAA, a good holster, and some ammo back at the turn of the last century, and it will still do so today.

Jeff That would get a SAA, a really nice holster, and a whole lot of ammunition! The rule of thumb is that an ounce of gold (~$20 gold piece) has been roughly equal to the price of a SAA since it's debut.

A stainless SAA would be an ideal gun for the holy black, no?

CraigC - very well put. If street price on the new New Frontiers is around $1200 and the guns are well built (I expect they will be), I will happily plunk down my money for a 4 3/4" .44 Special and likely save for a .45 in the same length. It will be interesting in the coming year given USFA's announced huge price increases and Colt's new products.

In my view, the Colt New Frontier has long been the best looking handgun on the planet. I am glad to hear that they have their quality up - that has been very disappointing to me over the years (lack of quality as far as dimensions go).
I'm not sure I am up to paying what they will cost (twice what a good Ruger costs). I am one of those that has had exceptional luck with my Rugers, so that colors my opinion. I AM happy that they will be available for those that have "Colt fever", tho'. They are certainly a most desirable handgun if the dimensions are in line.

IF the new NF's are as nicely fit and finished as current SAA's, and IF they keep the price under $1400....I will own a 44 special and a 357 mag next year. I am already scheming on how to raise the funds if need be!! LOL
The Colt bug has me in its grips! Along with the S&W bug, and the Ruger bug, and the custom bug.....Thanx John Taffin!!
