I am not one to give marriage advice. I divorced my first two and am doing what I can to delay #3 until she threatens to leave me if I don't. Been there, done that and don't feel the urgency to do it again. BUT... I have been and in fact am at where you are now. My careeer track took a detour about 5 years ago and I am still making only about 1/2 what I was making previously. I even thought about going back to school (at 50!) to get a degree in a new field that has always been of interest to me. Short and sweet of it is that I am not willing to sell my house to fund a college education. BUT... I have tried very, very hard to not sell off my guns. They happen to be the one thing that I really enjoy. I did have to sell a couple of them and I found some other things to sell off, but long term I am very happy I didn't get rid of them. Particularly the custom ones since they were my own personal ideas that I had created just like I wanted them. A huge ring a marriage does not make. She already knows your financial condition and you know hers. You can always make up for it one day in the future if it bugs you that bad. I did that with number 2 and got her a big damned diamond. I still got sick of her $h!t. Oh... and she threw her wedding band in my face and kept the diamond.  |

John had a good Christmas.
Withdrew my FA from the "for sales".
Cleared enough to stay solvent through next month, got half of my target $$ for ring money and have good news on the job front from THREE sources.

John had a good Christmas. Withdrew my FA from the "for sales". Cleared enough to stay solvent through next month, got half of my target $$ for ring money and have good news on the job front from THREE sources. Glad things have taken a good turn. Get her the rock. |
