Thanks for the rifling pic. I'm pretty sure that's what I was looking at waaaaaaaaaay back when I was in high school.
As far as bullets go, if you can get ahold of some Remington makes their 250gr factory .45 Colt bullet available in bulk to hand loaders. Same design as the Ideal/Lyman 454190 but you don't have to do all that casting. I shoot a bunch of them, usually keeping a 500 count box on hand.

how many grooves does your bbl have? The first handful of early bbls had 7 grooves and a gain twist.
