That's a tragedy. Everyone should HAVE to look at this. Show your kids. A "C" in physics doesn't mean you pass in the real world, guys.

Check out a rerun of last week's Mythbusters. They devoted a big chunk of time to this one.

Scary considering new shooters are told to shoot autos thumbs forward like that. I bet it will happen again.

Wouldn't common sense tell you to keep your thumb away from the barrel cylinder gap? It seems this guy probably didn't have any business shooting that big cannon anyways

I learned that lesson as a kid. Put an 8" .357 between my knees, legs spread slightly for a longish shot. Great rest with your hands/wrists on the lower quads,....but I made sure that didn't happen again. Lucky I was wearing jeans and they still got a mighty burn.
Yes, I knew better before I made the shot,......

That's a tragedy. Everyone should HAVE to look at this. Show your kids. A "C" in physics doesn't mean you pass in the real world, guys. Well, not sure about the "C" in physics, but I learned a good lesson as a teen-ager concerning this sort of thing. A buddy and I were in my truck one day, out in the boondocs, and I stopped because there was a critter of some sort ahead of us that needed shot (in our estimation, at least). My buddy opened the door, got out, and used the "V" between the door window and the windshield as a rest for his 686. Next time I washed my truck, I noticed chips of paint missing from the truck where the gas/powder/lead coming from the cylinder gap had taken it off. And this was with a .357 mag, which isn't nearly as powerful as the .460. From that observation, I've always made sure I use a grip that puts all body parts behind that area. Not that I didn't have enough common sense to know to do that, but seeing the missing paint sure reinforced it! Daryl

I'm a firm believer that some people are put on the earth to be examples for others. This is an obvious case. Stupid hurts.

So, what was Mythbusters conclusion? Thanks, Paul The made fake hands out of chicken parts. If the hand was placed appropriately, fingers could be removed.

had a wannabe cop a few years ago with no gun experience show up at the indoor range (clueless +++) , they rented him a 357 mag S&W , and since they were busy as hell asked me if i could walk him thru the basics ... the first grip he took put his thumb in the same place as above photos , i could not convince him it was a bad idea till i held a target along side the gun while firing a 38 wc... the target shredded... he turned a few shades of green and white after seeing that... more common then you'd think... esp with people who buy the revolving 'rifles'...
