I moved an old tube feeder in front of my ladder stand. Filled it with a sweet feed blend and poured rice bran on the ground. The typical early season rag horns showed up. Then early this week this thing shows up. If you can make out the ladder stand in the background that was where I was going to put the meat hammer and his 480. Best I can tell he is double main on the right and around 13 points.

Good thing baiting is not legal in my state. Makes it kind of unfair I would say!!!

I feed a lot more of them than I shoot. Nice thing about it being legal is you have the option of not doing it if you dont think it is fair. Personally, I dont have a problem with it. I use bait my on my hooks when I fish also.

As long as you can feel ethically about what you are doing that is all that matters. As far as the fishing goes there are places where bait is illegal too. Bad analogy.

I hunt and fish legally first. My analogy took the legality for granted. I switched to an inline muzzleloader when they made them legal. I hunted Colorado black powder when optics were illegal. I put a scope on the year they made it legal. Hell I even carried a crossbow this year after Oklahoma legalized it for all archery hunting. None of these put me in an ethical dilemma.
I guess the whole feeding no feeding (or baiting if you prefer) could be the subject of another thread for those who feel strong enough about it. For those (especially Dick whom the thread was directed at) who enjoy seeing big deer in the wild, here ya go.

Gary, you've really got me thinking now! Thats a beautiful buck, I hope you or Roger whacks him! As far as baiting is concerned, if its legal in your state you don't owe anyone an explaination.....its legal! The F&G of every state sets the game laws & the hunters just follow the regulations, whats to argue?

I have a view of him looking back at the camera that really shows the double main beam. He is really a freak. With the full moon's we have had most of the activity is nocturnal. We are overrun with does. The 81 year old farmer who runs cattle on us says he thinks they need to make the law that you have to shoot 2 does before you can get a buck tag.
Woody, I hope I didnt come across as too argumentative. Just didnt think this was the proper venue for the discussion. I hope there are no hard feelings.

Then rice bran must be deer heroin. They tear it up and keep coming back for more.

Good thing baiting is not legal in my state. Makes it kind of unfair I would say!!! You still have to beat the deer's nose, eyes, and ears on his turf. I've hunted over bait and I've hunted without it. I've been skunked over bait at least as many times as when I've not been on it.

We got ours from hunter who quit hunting. Girlfriend issues. Anyway it is marked "wildlife feed" and I understand a few of the local feed stores sell it. We ended up with about 700 pounds so I havent shopped for it yet.
It is powder and form what I understand it will mold if it gets wet. We are pouring 4-5 pounds at a time and it will last a day or two. If you google search rice bran for deer you can find alot of plans for feeders. Mostly covered trough style.
