I have the 500 Linebaugh Long on a Ruger Max frame. Recoil is pretty nasty at max and when you download you're back to 500 Linebaugh levels. I don't regret building it, but it doesn't see a lot of range time. -Lee www.singleactions.com

I don't have personal experience, but I did a lot of reading when I was deciding the fate of my maximum frame.
I settled on the .500 Linebaugh Max, because you have the option of using the 500+ gn bullets for the 500 Alaskan.
With the .475, all you get to do without custom molds is shoot 400-440 gn bullets faster, and some "authorities" believe that cast bullets won't perform as well at 1500 fps as they do at 1200 fps.
That being said, if it's a Linebaugh built max that's kinda rare squared.

I have a Reeder 475 Linebaugh Maximum on his frame.Beats the standard 475 by 150+ fps on ALL bullet weights.Recoil is severe at full bore. My avatar shows a Red Hartebeest I took with the 475 Max in S.Africa in 2006 and I was able to take a bushbuck with the 475 Max also ;D .I little over kill but I badly wanted to take some game with it in Africa and noway could I afford a Buffalo.I was shooting 405gr WFNGC at 1550 fps in Africa but have since started shooting 425gr LFNGC at 1420 fps.The gun is very accurate at hunting distances.Of course I like the 475 Max.

I'm new so I don't fully understand this logic that, when either of the Linebaughs or Gallagher or Clements or whoever is thought of as a very compitent gunsmith get done changing a Ruger into some type of conversion, it is still just a $400 Ruger. I have a .475 L by Gallagher, a .475L by Dustin, and a .500L by John Linebaugh and none feel like or look like any store bought Ruger that I have ever seen.

+1 on that thought magnoliaslim.... I have more FAs than anyone I know and I love each and evey one of them. At one time I agreed that any custom Ruger was simply a custom Ruger and not in the same class as the FA.. My first Gallagher custom erased all that stuff from my head... Fit, finish, precision... I am now a believer. Still trading for FAs but having more custom Rugers built too...

Well thank goodness for that axhandle. I thought I was just a dumb ass which is something that I can vehemently truthfully argue. Couldn't even spell competent correctly in my previous thread. Notice you are located in the deep South. Just how deep is that? Unfortunately somehow I unknowing, which by the way covers about everything I do, settled not very far from jefats who also post on here but at least he takes good photos and post them for me. I had a reasonably acceptable reputation until I met him. Now I am suprised when people even respond to my threads. We are located in central Ms. We go shoot together every week and usually when one of us hear the other's gun go off, we immediately check to see if we been hit and that is when we are hiding behind a tree. Somehow every once in awhile I have a flyer that actually hits the target. jefats shoots the x-ring out most of the time. Usually when we're not slinging lead downrange, we're laughing. Can't beat that kind of friendship.

Sounds like you are running with some good people over there.... I'm actually over here in Alabama.... Makes me think of a favorite line in one of the few good chick flicks... Sweet Home Alabama.... "Just cause I talk slow don't mean I'm stupid" ;D

I've got an even worse situation. Jefats is from south La. and I'm still trying to understand what he says. As I said though, about half of our time at the range we spend laughing. Or cussing our loads. Either way we have a great time. Hard to beat the smell of gun powder, tight groups down range, and good friends. As they say, it just don't get no better than that.

RUGERS ARE A VERY GOOD BASE REVOLVER TO START CUSTOM BUILDS FROM....WHAT YOU END UP WITH IS A REFINED....WELL TUNED RUGER....AND SINCE STOCK RUGERS ARE QUITE AFFORDABLE....IT'S A GOOD STARTING POINT...WHAT OTHER MANUFACTURED REVOLVER WOULD ONE START WITH.... AND WHEN I BUY....I LIKE TO BUY USED....;D
