What is a "number 5 grip frame"?
Dont see any reference to it on the gunblast grip frame article

I think as suggested you need to read Keith's article as he tells how they created it using I believe a standard Colt front strap combined with a Colt Bisley back strap. I have a knock off how accurate it is to the original I have no way of knowing it looks the same but most important it fits my hand better than any other single action standard or modified grip I have tried.

...and this is the genuine article:  Of course, I have never (and never will) held the #5 in my hands. I read and heard it said that the #5 is a concept, that of the melding of a standard Colt and Colt Bisley grip frame, and may be different in some respects depending on who is making the decisions. There are probably slight and minor differences in the Powers, TLA, and Mr. Keith's #5 grip frame. The Ruger Bisley is probably the closest mass produced grip frame and sufficient for most of us for a while. |

Kings6...WOW that gun looks FANTASTIC! Hope it shoots as good as it looks.
Mark, the Ruger Bisley is quite a bit different in feel and shape. The Power #5 frame was copied from an actual tracing taken from the "original".

I don't know that "missing it" is the appropriate phrase there Box... Keith's number 5 was his "Last Word." In my head the creation of a "Number 5" should be a pretty personal thing... We can celebrate the man and make copies of his "Number 5" or we can embrace the concept and each make our own! ;D

I have not used a number 5 for anything more than 44 specials at 1200 fps (250 gr bullet). It is quite comfortable at that level, and to me points better too. I think the #5 carries better, bit less weight on top or above the holster. Might just be me though. Remember that Elmer when writing about the Ruger Super Blackhawk said it was the best single action he had ever used. That was much after his #5 came to be. The #5 was not created to shoot the big boomers we have today. Again I like the way Axe put it.... |

I've shot my Reeder #5 along side a custom Gallagher Bisley Ruger... For me the Bisley is much more comfortable with heavier loads.  It's a beautiful gun but I don't quite understand that big hump on the bottom of the hammer on this one and Keith's gun. It just doesn't fit with the lines of the gun. The only thing I can think of is that it keeps the hammer slot in the grip frame filled up no matter what position the hammer is in. |
