Lee says... "256 Win Mag is another nice option:" nobearsyet asks... "Nice gun, is that in fact a 256?" Lee responded with.."It is a 256 Win Mag....I built it earlier this year." What Lee really meant! "Took the trash out one day and had a few minutes before the coffee was ready so I built it real quick" ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I'm sure if it was everybody would be doing it, and saving a boatload of cash in the process

I'm sure if it was everybody would be doing it, and saving a boatload of cash in the process I can afford to send a LOT of pieces off for the half million in equipment some of these guys have. I built a set of grips for myself once, and based on how long it took me and what my time is worth at work, the grips cost about $400 and looked like hell. You can infer from that that I either have a good job, or can't make grips worth a damn, I don't care. But, on the other hand, I WAS going to drink all that beer anyway, might as well have been busy. I had a huge smile on my face when I saw Lee's in process pic (44 special project thread)with the Miller High Life in it. "Installation lubrication" is what I used to call it back when I was installing car audio on the side.

I'd sell it and buy a 4 5/8 Ruger BH in 45 Colt.

I'd sell it and buy a 4 5/8 Ruger BH in 45 Colt. Probably the best idea yet.

I'd sell it and buy a 4 5/8 Ruger BH in 45 Colt. I've already got one of those. I've got the following Ruger SAs: - .45 Colt Bisley Hunter 5.5"
- .44 Mag SBH 4-5/8"
- .44 Spl Lipsey's 5.5"
- .45 Colt Vaquero 7.5"
- .45 Colt bright stainless Vaquero 5.5"
- .45 Colt/.45 Auto bright stainless Vaquero convertible 5.5"
- .38-40/.40 S&W bright stainless Vaquero convertible 5.5"
- .32 H&R Mag Single-Six Vaquero 5.5"
- .357 Mag BH 1976 6.5"
The funny thing is I really prefer a 4-5/8" barrel, but I've only got one like that. I had a stainless 4-5/8" .357 NMBH once and sold it because one chamber was rough and would hang onto brass. I kick myself daily over that.

Txtad, After seeing your list and if that 357 wasnt on it that would be the one I would be looking for. I guess if you have to do something because of an itch I would just add another cylinder rechambered for 356 GNR and leave the 6 1/2" tube. I myself wouldnt mess with the Bain and Davis until I got into 10" barrels. That and the 356 GNR just works better in revolvers all around.

You might think about selling it, and getting a 357 anniversary model. 4 5/8" barrel, and the small frame better suited to the .357.

I don't know so much about the Bain and Davis not working well in sixguns, I have had my hadnds on plenty that shot well, but yes, you're best bet would in fact probably be some sort of multiple chamber/multiple cartridge convertible revolver, and you can still shoot 357/38 in a pinch with the extra factory cylinder

Lee I know you have both the 357 Max and the 357 B&D , and they are 2 peas in a pod . Which is your favorite and why . I had the B&D in a TC and it loved the 180 rifle bullets . I have a MAX now . I've kicking the idea around about making a B&D for years .

I determined a few days ago that when my 44Special Vaqueri gets done that the 357 barrel on the Vaquero now is going to get used for a B&D conversion someday, after I get through some of the other projects in line first

Another option; .356 GNR (This one is my converted Liberty Model) .41 Mag necked down to .357. Shoots great, hits hard and is accurate. You can duplicate .357 Max ballistics in a standard sized revolver. Dave
