parallaxbnll.... beautiful K-22. I’d expect it to be a real shooter. The S&W Target Hammer is not stock to the model, although it may well have been installed at the factory. I much prefer standard hammer & trigger on a K frame. The post WW II rear sight is a big improvement over the pre-war sight, which cost more to make. The front sight is pinned to the barrel, whether or not the pin is visible. Appears to have the new style cylinder stop (aka bolt, or cylinder latch). as I don’t see a screw at the front of the trigger guard.
Wore out the cylinder stop on mine. That was years ago and a lot of lead. S&W replaced it while I waited.
S&W used to, and may still, offer a Light Rebound Spring, to lighten the double action stroke. This is better than trimming the standard rebound spring as it preserves full throw. David Bradshaw

Have got a 5-screw 1952 birth year pre-17 but it doesn't shine like that...

David Bradshaw Good spot on the target hammer Mr. Bradshaw, I was so happy it was a 1957 model like me that the details were secondary at the time. Does S&W do factory letters similar to Ruger? I'd love to know more about this revolver.

parallaxbnll.... Roy Jinks may still letter guns for S&W. Your photo of the Cylinder Stop Plunger Screw in front of the trigger guard makes your Model 17 K-22 a “4 screw” revolver. It was a mistake for S&W to eliminate the plunger activated cylinder stop, replacing it with just a coil spring pressed against the frame. David Bradshaw

I have its distant cousin from 1947. One of the two finest 22 handguns I've ever owned. We, the revolver and I, used to be good for 25 yard head shots on squirrels. I'm confident the revolver still is....
