I was at Cabela's. Looking at there new rifles one caught my eye. I asked the kid to give me a look at it. And it felt great in the hand too. Brown Synthetic stock matt blue finish light deer rifle. It was a model 70. My favorite. Old model style action. Very handy. Felt a lot like a Remington model 7. I could do without the muzzle break, but it is threaded on and caps can be had. It was chambered for the 6.5 creed. Priced at 1200.00 and change. I told the kid i want one in .308. He said we don't have one. I said good cause i would buy it if you did and i am trying to pay my house off buy spring. So i went home looked at the Winchester web sight. It is a Cabela's exclusive. Not chambered for any of the old classic rounds. You can get it in 6.5 creed 6.5 PRC and something else. I forget what, but not in .308 ,7mm08 .243 or anything but the new darling rounds. What crap! Why would you not put a short action model 70 out in .308? Well on the bright side I will be knocking at least 2 grand off my mortgage this month. Under 10 grand now. I am working 55 plus hours a week at 65. If i don't keel over, the mortgage will be paid off in February or March. ...tj

Good luck with the mortgage pay off thing. It is a good feeling to be out from under owing anybody anything, except for utilities and insurances and such.

I'll second paying off the mortgage. I'm 71 and we built our house out of pocket in 2003-04, no mortgage. All we've had since then is one car payment for a toy we wanted and we paid it off way early. Speaking of which, I need to sell some toys. Anyone have an interest in vintage MG's?...........

Go for the mortgage TJ! Once it’s gone it will be MUCH easier to buy ANY rifle your heart desires!

I have not paid a house payment since 1990. It is one of the HUGE steps towards a happy carefree life. Period.

No sir, as in vintage Mg-TF, '55 and MG-A, '56..........but I know what you meant. I think feeding all 4 of my old cars is probably cheaper than feeding an MG-42!! There's also a 1974, MG-B in the garage

Well: I just got alerted to a Cooper single 22 K Hornet located in Livingston MT in good condition, but I don't really need, no I don't really need another K Hornet. Besides the boss up there is out of country (lucked out there). Had to take on a GI loan for a house here in CO as my youngest is blind and crippled and he can not afford the rents. I don't wish to meet up with my departed wife if I had not watched some, of our kids. Have a nice day Don K.

Most of my houses are nearly paid off. When they are, I will be retiring to the life of a landlord. Between my Army check and rental income I should have a little more toy money and actually be able to have time off to enjoy it.
My weakness for Winchester rifles is the pre '64 Featherweight.

Does it have to be a feather weight? How about a Pre-64 Super grade in 270?
