Nice work Cary, and thanks for opening your website for my viewing! I'm sorry for your illness and how it has effected your vocation. I too have retired due to health issues having had covid19 twice and suffered severe lung damage. I'm sure the lung problem were exacerbated by decades of breathing walnut dust. Few from my generation wore masks when working. I hope you did mask-up and your situation wasn't effected by breathing spalted dust ; >) I only made custom grips one at a time for myself and a Very few others because I could never charge enough to make it worthwhile. Most all the grips I show above I made for myself and I still have on my fav revolvers. Custom rifles and shotguns made my living and grips have just been a hobby for me. I have had scraps from exhibition walnut stocks and found some musical instrument quality Gaboon ebony so that is all I've ever used to make grips. I am such a traditionalist I never ventured into exotic woods or any of the spalted variety. I've just been jerking your's, and the sensitive potato head's chains. You guys can continue to make and enjoy grips from whatever rotten product you desire, I'll cease and desist from commenting. Even my most sophisticated custom project I chose high quality but relatively straight grain walnut as I always thought the beauty was in the design and construction. Here is a project done for a great client who owns several rifle of my making.

I was very fortunate to get to travel to Stevens ship several months ago and purchase several boxes of his wood cut offs from his custom rifle making and I am slowly milling these pieces of English walnut, Claro walnut and ebony into blank panels for revolvers. Getting to see some of his projects was an added bonus and worth the trip itself.
