For the cost of the BFR I'm a bit disappointed they can't finish it better. I mean I have 5 ruger revolvers and I completely understand complaints about finish but acknowledge that they're a lot more affordable. A BFR No. 5 in .500 linebaugh will be over 3k I think, so I'd like the finish to reflect that. Then again I have a freedom arms m83 premier. Love that one and have no issues with the fit and finish. Every #5 BFR I have seen is fully finished out. I'd guess by hand when they machine in the cylinder pin latch. They aren't built from a special casting. It a regular frame the custom shop fits the pin lock to. That's really good to know. No. 5 is next on my list so it's gotta be tight tight tight yo. Lol. Honestly I love BRFs but they sit in this weird middle child in the world of single actions in my mind. It's just one of those things I can't get out of my head. Drives me nuts. Ruger -> BFR -> Freedom Arms in terms of price and quality in my head. But still I love them all.

I can agree with that...to a degree.
On a scale of 1 (Ruger) to 10 (Freedom Arms), I'll give BFR an 8.
Sure, I modify most guns to suit me. But, for quality to price ratio, BFRs are still the best for the money.

They're like a 5 or 6 at most in terms of out of the box quality. And their customer service is second to none and that counts for something. I've sent guns back for all sorts of bs and they handled it no questions asked.

I "think" you meant how I interpreted the 1 for Ruger as a baseline starting point not an increment from zero?

For a few hours of work,a BFR will be finished as well as any FA Premier grade, if you develop the skills or already have them.
A friend of mine has a new BFR 6-shot 357 7.5" (really it's 8-1/8"). Needs cosmetic finished. It's trigger breaks clean at 2 lbs 14 oz with a bit of over travel. So add an internal trigger stop. The front sight isn't that great a profile so add a 2Dogs long range front. The front sight is screw mounted, so no labor or smith bill.
So figure the $1250 he gave for the gun new, $100 to Fermin for the sight, a 50 cent set screw, and the 2 hrs it takes to file, sand, and scotchbrite it to a Premier Grade finish, plus the hour it takes to set up and install the over travel stop.
Compare that to my 353 Silhouette premiere grade. They'll have the same finish. There's no real difference in barrel length from the cylinder face (8-1/8" vs 9"). Both have no end shake and lock up without rotational play, bank vault tight. He beats me my 5rds ( only can be safely carried loaded with 4) to his 6rds. Weight feels no different in the hand. Triggers are close at 2 lbs 14 oz vs 2 lbs 11 oz. Accuracy is a wash ( Mp 359-640 over max 353 level #9 powder charge) my .643" vs his .687" from the Ransom Rest.
The real kicker is his $1350.50 plus a few hours elbow grease in my shop vs the $1163 dollars my 353 cost, in 1992! A new FA M83 silhouette is a MSRP of $3050 without options. That's a field grade finish without the trigger job and you can't get a trigger less than 3 lbs anymore from the FA factory.
