Alloy frame are great to ride with but are not fun to shoot.
I've carried a M10 2" for 3 years while in the service and a 65 4" & 3" and two Js, a 640 2" and a Mimber KS6. Although I tolerate the Js I feel alittle under gunned but then again, in ain't my yob anymore so it is really fine for social purposes. Still getting acquainted with the KS6.
I think 357 is minimum which still affords the opportunity for 38 and plusP, ya just can't go the other way around. You loose too much velocity in a 2"
I think a 3" K frame is perfect. I have a 3" 629 I run specials in but a little bigger and heavier for IWB.
I prefer a "Novac-ish" style rear sights (particularly with SS guns) and a tall front aka 640 "Pro" style sights
On a 640 2" with magnaporting and 15/16 gr H110 I'm getting a little over 1100 W/ 125s I believe. I think HS6 has more potential.
I need to play with a 69 snub.

I love snubs! I prefer steel J-Frames for carry, I like the extra heft versus the alloy versions. My current favorite is a 2" model 31-1 I reamed to 32 Mag. That is a sweety of a handgun with enough power for anything I will come across. The 38 special is probably the best all around cartridge for a snub but I prefer the six rounds and lesser recoil of the 32's.
I just picked up a 3" model 64 repatriated from the French police I have been playing with and its going pretty good, working on testing it out. Have a full wadcutter I plan to work out.
The 3" 686 is a nice little powerhouse but heavy. I appreciate the weight when I shoot it but not so much packing it. This was a used handgun that I put a set of fixed sights on and had to pull the barrel and re-index it to get windage proper. Easy job in the end and I think I like the fixed sights on a carry gun.
J's, K's and L's, I love them all. No snubby N frames in my small stable though...
