Nice! I would have taken the chance too! Are you trying to corner the market on .454s? No, but I have a added several lately. I don't plan on anymore. But, if I wasn't overloaded with them, there's one listed I'd buy. It's the most flexible revolver cartridge I've ever handloaded.Surprisingly even on this forum the comment in bold is like some kind of best-kept secret. Nice score!

Great job, Sir.
What grit size(s) did you use?

I learned a valuable lesson when I finally bought my Freedom Arms .454 Casull. Do not wait to buy one. Yes they are expensive but do what you can to scrimp and save to buy one. If you find one somewhere that will do a layaway, do it. Once you fire one you will be hooked and the grin stays there for a lot longer than anything else that money could have bought

Where can you find trailboss? That's as rare as a winning lottery ticket!

Where can you find trailboss? That's as rare as a winning lottery ticket! Unfortunately, another true statement, I bought 4 pounds a few years ago, before components dried up, down to about 2 pounds now, and don't expect a return anytime soon, let alone what the cost will be

Just like my favorite medium powder, Universal. I've got about 3/4 pound left and 1000 357 mag brass ready to load. It doesn't add up.

Great job, Sir. What grit size(s) did you use? I can't answer this accurately. What I'm using is the various Emory Boards and Nail Buffers that women folk use on their fingernails. You'll get jokes from your buddies, but I've no shame when it comes to a better gun. I will suggest you buy your own. Women DO NOT fund it funny when you use theirs on guns. Trust me on that. The only one marked is 280 on one side and 320 on the other. The 320 is about like the factory finish. But, the finer grit finish holds up much better. It's a little work, a lot of time and worth every bit...

Too many Internet Ninja Keyboard Warriors... We all know the full power loads kick like Rosie O'Donnell doing a backflip. But, case capacity is very little more than the 45 Colt due to web and sidewall thickness. Reduced loads are simple to the extreme. Unique or Universal will easily push a 250/255 to 1200 fps for an easy shooting killer of critters. Also, all the drama surrounding primers. Sure, Remington 7 1/2 has always been recommended/best for full power loads. But, I've used SP, SPM, SR and SRM for all sorts of reasonable loads. Never had a problem with any of them...

For your emory boards, get some 5 gal stir sticks and an old news paper lay the sticks and some 220 and 320 wet/dry paper out on the paper and spray down with 3M spray glue. Allow to tack up and apply to the first flat of the stir stick. Lightly score the back of the paper with a razor knife and fold onto the next flat. I use these when fitting 1911 parts after the major meat has been removed with a file. I also use a 1/2" Wide strip of pine board about same thickness as the stir sticks.
Got the same FA Mod 83 configuration with a 45 ACP cylinder to boot. It's a hoot with mp molds 200 gr HP and 6.0 of 231!
As the saying goes, the deals are were you find them, the key is to have the cash in hand when you do. Nice snag!

Grabbed up some loaded (reduced) ammo and ambled out to the shooting bench.
This is the same 12 grn Unique pushing a 255 grn Coated SWC that I used in the FA 6" and BFR 7 1/8".
The load produced an even 1100 fps in the abbreviated barrel. That's 51 fps less than the FA 6" or a loss of 40 fps per inch of barrel. Right about what's expected.
Also, 84 fps less than the BFR 7 1/8" or a loss of 37 fps per inch of barrel. No surprises here either.
Accuracy is what you'd expect from a Freedom Arms. I truly don't shoot the express sights well. But, they're easy to get on target fast and accuracy is plenty good for the gun's purpose...

Mine is also a early model. Pre 83. I've considered sending it to FA for the firing pin update. Not sure if it's worth the trouble or not though. Guess I could get a few upgrades done while it's there. 🤔 Justin

If it ever breaks I will send it back out of necessity but the shipping costs to have it done as preventive medicine keeps me from doing it now. Dan
