The only oversize 45 colt Ruger cylinders Ive had were in 3-screw guns. The new models all tight, but others have different experiences. The 357 cylinders are shorter in length than 41, 44, and 45 cylinders. Not all smiths will open a 44 to 45, but some will. I like new vaquero, but like the original ones better. By oversized chamber, I was referring to even the industry maximum standards. I want the Linebaugh or Casull type tight chambers, i.e. absolute industry minimum dimension.

Bowen built me a 45 Colt on a OM medium frame 357. He said if Ruger could it, so could he. Gun is long one, to Bushie I think.

BACK IN THE EARLY PART OF THE 21st CENTURY JACK HUNTINGTON BUILT ME SOME TIGHT CHAMBERED 45 COLT REVOLVERS, TIGHTER THAN MY LINEBAUGH REDHAWK 45 COLT RECHAMBER FROM THE 1990's.

I had a midframe flattop 44 magnum (50th Anniversary Flattop 357) that had the frame opened up for a rechambered large frame 357 mag cylinder. I would only do this again if linebored, as my gun was just “bubba” rechambered, and not all of the chambers would allow a range rod to pass. I would personally feel comfortable with SAAMI spec 44 mag loads, but the chamber walls between chambers would be too thin for anything above 23k psi in 45 Colt. You need to move up to a cylinder made from an exotic like 4350 for 32k “Ruger Only” 45 Colt loads in a six-shot midframe. 5-shot cylinders are a different story, obviously.

When I built a 45 colt on a 3 screw 357 frame I used a full sized 357 cylinder Made it oversized a bit. John said you will run out of hand before you run out of strength…….grip frame kept one in check. Shouldn’t press ones luck….. I’m debating a stick of Carp 465 or Vascomax 300 or 350 A lot to look at at that price

Mr. Aciera, if you need some Carpenter 465C let me know, I may have enough here for a cylinder or two. Steve
