Ohio is a greedy state when it comes to revenue, so it does not surprise me. If you leave money in a SAVINGS account (everyone gets the idea of SAVINGS), and don't take any out for a year, the State starts taking money out of that account, assuming it's abandoned. I noticed this spring that my bank was taking money out of an account I hadn't withdrawn from in a few years and had to start taking $5/month out to send to the State. Note that putting money INTO the account does not stop the State from claiming it as "dormant." like in you DIED, so now its THEIRS.
That should be totally illegal!!! I think most banks have a 6 month inactive account fee. This should be criminal also. When I was a kid growing up, Mom would have me put money into a savings account whenever I would work in the summer or whatever. After I got married I went to the bank to see about moving the savings account balance into a joint checking with the new wife. They told me that the account had been closed and I still owed them for the last month's fee. I did get a little loud asking WTF?? The branch manager came over to quite me down and explain that the bank needed to be paid for my money just sitting in their bank. I thought that banks were supposed to be a safe place to keep your money. I started drawing a crowd from the other people in the bank who also were not aware that after 6 months, the bank just started taking your money until it was gone. The manager had them look at what my balance was before they started taking it, added in some interest and gave it to me in cash. Then he asked me to please leave and not come back. Sorry for the rant. It's a crooked system if you don't play by their rules...

I don't remember which governer it was in somewhat recent history (one you would think on our side) who tried to divert hunting license fees to the general fund.
Ummmm, NO! That's where conservation money comes from.
I'm in education. My students pay steep lab fees, but all lab fees go to the general fund and I have to beg for money or go apply for and run grants to pay for wire nuts and wire! Got burned on that once to the extent that I don't do grants any more. Take a 50% cut in pay to serve the public as a teacher and then have to spend your own time running around begging other people for money to teach.
I'm ashamed and embarrassed for my own state.

I got sidetracked from what the original post was about. I'm an Idaho native, Idaho has greatly reduced prices for DAV license and tags. I'm in Arkansas now, 100% disabled Vet also. Arkansas gives us a lifetime hunting and fishing license. Depending on the zone you can take 5 or 6 deer a season, tags are included with the license.

I bought another 3 year license yesterday. My complaint was the family members and older friends that for years got FREE licenses at retirement age, forget exact year, 65 ? In anticipation of that, bought a 3 yr license last time and it just ran out. Am 65 now. Googled up the Fishy folks to finally see FREE ! Saw now free has been bumped out to a born on date that needs me to be 83. 83 is the new 65 ? How many 83 yr olds climb in and outta boats, steelhead/trout fish cold slippery streams ? A pretty small gift, pretty small pool of people can make use of that now. Somebody stole the carrot off the end of the stick..
