My youngest son is home for a few weeks from Mississippi to his home here in Idaho. He actually has 2 offices & for now is working out of his office just across the Idaho border in Utah. Today he brought the youngest son up for a quick run on some ground squirrels because I've been telling him they are really thick this year & Callshot can't hit them. My grandson Drew doesn't get much opportunity to shoot when they are home in Mississippi so he was looking forward to shooting his iron sighted 10/22 Ruger. Even though he's only 11 years old he has done a fair bit of shooting when they have been in Idaho. As luck would have it the very first critter we spotted was not one Badger but two Badgers in a field, just off the road. A quick turn around & some necessary instructions from his dad, relayed from the front seat to the back seat & the chase was on. When we eased back down the road & spotted the 2 Badgers his dad gave him the OK to chamber a round & go on safety. When I eased to a halt the front Badger made a dash for the den hole & never even slowed down. Badger #2 ran for the den hole but at the last second it stopped for one more quick look & raised it's head just a bit. Brett told him to shoot it right under the chin. Yikes, the kid had never seen a Badger before, hadn't fired a shot in over a year & was shooting iron sights at about 40 yds. I think the only one nervous was Grandpa! You can see where he hit it & it never moved, then him & his dad walked up & dad said give it another one just in case. Happy Days, Drew got his first Badger & 31 ground squirrels. We have it on ice & I'll take it to the taxidermist tomorrow for a nice rug for Drew. Dick

Great job. Every family needs a 10/22 for kids to learn on. He is starting out with a fantastic foundation

My 4 sons grew up hunting all of this country when they were Drew's age & even younger & shot thousands of ground squirrels & a large number of Badgers & now they are passing these same spots down to their sons & a couple of daughters. I remember many times they would leave the house with their guns, usually a 10/22 or a 22 Hornet or 218 Bee & the necessary shovel, in case they had to dig out a Badger that made it to the den hole. Some of the hunts were real rodeo's! More than once all of us have been chased by mad Badgers. Truth is they are always mad. Dick
