I finally was able to handle a new Anaconda, and it did not disappoint. Action was buttery smooth, would not need an action job (unlike every S&W I've ever bought). The finish was flawless and nicely polished. Lockup was nice and tight. It's definitely bigger and meatier than a Model 29, but it's not often I handle that impressive of a gun, especially for $1405 shipped (price from KYGunCo). And it sure would be nice to have a 44 that could better handle 300+ grain bullets. Planning to snag one later this year.

Bill, looking over my other notes which I forgot to check, with the cylinder locked in the firing position (hammer down, trigger fully back) the cylinder has zero end shake or play, and a .003" feeler gauge is snug between the cylinder and barrel's forcing cone. I have read that others have not had Anacondas as tight but maybe Davidson's engraved models had an extra bit of pixie dust spread on it at Colt? I know you're not local but if you get to south Florida you're welcome to give mine a test drive alongside my S&W's. You do know that a pecularity of most Colt revolver and when the trigger is pulled either single or double action the cylinder pawl puts a little pressure on the cylinder in it's direction of rotation which in a Colt is counter clockwise so there shouldn't be any rotational play normally. I had an Anaconda when they first came out long ago. I even had a 2x7 scope on it. I use to compare it's accuracy to my Model 29 S&W Classic in 44 Magnum at 50 yards. I shot everything out of the Colt that I could load in it. All the cast of different moulds and weights and premium jacketed bullet and it just could not get under 1 inch or below at 50 yards noway no how.. The Smith did. Yeah I know two different calibers. Another thing the Anaconda I had, had tremendous trigger slap. I traded it of and I'm not sorry one iota. There is no comparison between the Anaconda and the Ruger Redhawk in strength. For that matter a Taurus Raging Bull may be stronger too.

My Anaconda is extremely well built. Fit and finish are second to none. Action and trigger pull are silky smooth.
Clements built me a custom front sight, accuracy is boringly perfect.
With no scientific data, I'd put strength on par with the Ruger Super Blackhawk. That being said, I suspect heavy bullets can be pushed harder due to the long cylinder. This allows bullets to be seated out and pressure reduced.
