I sold some of Teds 'surplus'. He stopped by and stole my bench for an hour yesterday to put together a gun he built before leaving AZ that just got done at the engraver. He was happy to also pickup his check for the guns, as spring is coming, and he will actually have grass to mow, so the AZ push mower needs a serious upgrade š

I think it is great that the gun and I personally would not have a problem spending that kind of money if that was the gun I wanted. Shoot his many of us spend three to four times that for a truck that drops 15-20% as soon as we drive it off the lot. If the guy isnāt hurting his family finances or using the teapot grocery money then good for him.

Shoot his many of us spend three to four times that for a truck that drops 15-20% as soon as we drive it off the lot. If the guy isnāt hurting his family finances or using the teapot grocery money then good for him. I shot some nice 1911. Niceā¦.. then I got one from the top tier. It was 20 years old and I had it sent back to the maker to have him look it over. Carried more than shot. SS officers model. Gun cost near 3x the most Iād ever paid for a gun. (Iām cheapā¦ā¦.only have one custom and that was a giftā¦.stillā¦.) Shot it the next day. A lot. And then called the smith. We talked. Not customer-smithā¦ā¦. Just as two guys that finish metals to certain shapes and finishesā¦ā¦.had a conversation a while ago with Doug Turnbull the same way. Had one with Weatherbyās engraver once too. With Jesse James last I heard. Anyway. It was about the detailsā¦ā¦ā¦.the little last details most donāt see. Ol John Linebaugh and I had a lot of talks like that. About the craftā¦ā¦ā¦what isnāt written down. Not in the books. But make sense when you hear it. And these talks are never planned it seems. They are the best. Anyway. The conversation with this smith was āin the cornersā as an Ol biker friend would sayā¦ā¦changing direction but staying on the field. One would lead then the other. What sidearm and load he used when golfing in Arizona. (SS Officers model with CCI for rattlersā¦ā¦patterns well) To getting a FLAT durable finish. Just a joy. The conversation you would drive 1/2 way across the country to have. Well I would. He had no sales opportunityā¦ā¦..I just spent more than I ever did on a gun. He knew that. But we were āin the cornersāā¦ā¦ā¦āsend me $1000 and you are on my listā¦ā¦.probably be the last gun I ever buildā I mailed it the next day. 7 year wait. Like kings6 saidā¦ā¦..there are some gunsā¦ā¦ā¦.and this will be one of them. And I will shoot the weeeee out of it. No lightning bolts and such. Just understated elegance. Still talking what the build will be. Many of these high dollar guns donāt get shotā¦ā¦.okay I guess. But one of the joys of guns is sharing them with others. The 12 bore that I am polishing on now that will eclipse the 1911 in cost is something I can share with friends. Canāt do that with a hot rod with a built 496ā¦ā¦..they might wreck it!!! Another story. Anyway. Iāve rambled ā¦ā¦excuse me. I agree with kingsā¦ā¦

Now the $59k Cabot Damascus 1911 Iād really have to want to shake loose of that much money . But once again, if I had it and appreciated the work that went into the finer details of a build like that then go for it.

I respect the folks on this site , BUT some of the discussions on here and prices paid for guns is just absurd , no two ways about it .

Wellā¦ā¦as to the costā¦ā¦.got rid of cable and tv 30 years agoā¦ā¦.i read a lot. At say $30 a month cable billā¦ā¦.30 years ā¦ā¦.no interestā¦ā¦near $11k
$30 about average? And I donāt golf either. lol. And sold some chainsaws and bars.
And as to a regular 1911 being as goodā¦ā¦.his short barreled guns shoot:
ā5 shot groups at 25 yards guaranteed 1āā¦ā¦.most are 1/2-5/8āā¦.āā¦.short barreled. Mine will be full sized.
That is from a Ransom restā¦ā¦..but you can tell the difference. Friends gravitate to shooting the one I have. Iāll practice with it. But itās promised to a friend in my will. A number will be.
A friend said to have my funeral now so all my friends can get together for the party. So they could meet. Party has been planned 30 years. Steak and lobster and corn on the cob. Yuengling beer and Drambuie. Good idea
It is art I guessā¦ā¦.but shoot able art. And the detail is something I appreciate. Most truly canāt. I used to have call outs on a print of a .003-.005 radiusā¦ā¦.and it would be measured. And certain things cost money.
He is a one man shop. He does all the hand checkering all the machine work. It shows.
And it is not a mass produced high dollar gun like are so fashionable these days.
The original Ratzeburg Korth revolvers were made at a rate of about 120 a year. The flashy Korths of today are made at a rate of about 2500 a year. Not the same. There are differencesā¦ā¦..and I had a very knowledgeable man show me.
Is it worth the money? To me it is.
Is another 1911 plain Colt mean more to meā¦ā¦.absolutely. I watched that one for 30 years. And I never wanted it. Meant my buddy was gone. His boys gave it to me.
And I drive a 2009 pickup. It gets dirty and scratched. Reliable though
Choices in life. For a long time I couldnāt afford guns like this. Went broke building guns. Started over.
And if you donāt think you can tell the differenceā¦ā¦.anyone is welcome to show up in northern Wyoming and shoot them. Have a meal. Talk and discuss. Thatās how we all learn.
You never learn when you are talking.
