What was supposed to be wrong with it? Looks perfectly acceptable.

Nice!
I like the smooth trigger - finally! I wonder if they all have smooth triggers now?

Maybe his buddies made fun of him because it cost half what theirs did.

I think Jeff's comment is truth, that looks like a great little revolver, the name suits it well

Way way back in the day- my dad traded into a blued 6” target pathfinder as they existed in the 70-80s. Simple round barrel, 6 shot blued. Strange feature was it had the smaller “plainclothes” tiny round butt scale panels instead of the Bulldog or larger target grips. Was kinda hard to shoot well for me due to the grips but stinking thing was accurate and reliable. My only serious cusses were the small grips and the trigger pull wasn’t as sweet as the old style s/s 3” Bulldog .44 he carried in hip pocket

Every Charter grip-frame from 1964 has been the same shape on all their revolvers, so a set of the Bulldog grips would have fit. There are quite a few aftermarket grips for them now too.
I like the old tapered, round barrels. I think one of those old 6" Pathfinders would be hard to pass up for me. I had an early, 3" blued one with the original name on the barrel - "Pocket Target."
The triggers on them are very responsive to a very minor amount of tweaking too.

First look I'd have bet that this thing had more aluminum in it. The magnet tells a different tale.

First look I'd have bet that this thing had more aluminum in it. The magnet tells a different tale. The grip frame on them is plastic. Not crazy about that idea, but I guess it works.
My 3", 357 Mag Pug (Bulldog frame size, 5-shot) is aluminum, as are the 44 Bulldogs, but in the early-mid eighties, the stainless Bulldogs had stainless grip frames, while the blued ones were aluminum. I had two stainless Bulldogs with stainless grip frames for anyone who doubts it - the magnet didn't lie.
If you find a ragged out old, stainless Bulldog being sold for parts, check that grip frame. It may be worth buying just for that.
For some good historical information on the Charter revolvers, look up Ed Buffaloe online. He had a page with a lot of good info and is a really nice guy to talk to if you have further questions.
