I was just bumping around on a page and saw that we have a minimum of three new lever actions being debuted at the show. Smith & Wesson, Aero Precision and Stag Arms evidently have all brought their offerings or prototypes to the show. And I remember seeing a video of a guy debuting one the other day that looked looks like that semi-auto ranch rifle that somebody had put out recently but with a lever on that too. I guess when it comes to lever actions I'm a bit more of a traditionalist. I really like the fact that Ruger has brought back out the Marlins but these aren't going to get me to open up my wallet. It's kind of like the lever actions are becoming like AR platforms where they are starting to look the same and a dime a dozen. I just hope that it creates more demand for those types of cartridges therefore production ramps up for some of those cartridges.

I follow the old adage “if people want to pay for it, sell it to em!”

Good grief...things just go from bad to worse. Dad would call those the syphlitic remains of an abortion.

Oh man, how dissapointing. At least the Smith version has some wood on it. Makes that old WalMart version Winchester I held yesterday look like a prize instead of a prison cell.

That's like trying to put a motor on a shovel.

I'd own it. Throw a Can and a Thermal on it. It would be a perfect for night time predator or hog hunting.

That's like trying to put a motor on a shovel. That makes me laugh. I used to work for a guy who was full of one-liners when he wanted to insult someone who wasn't working hard enough. For example - you're as useful as a crocheted condom. I'll add that one to the pile.

In ANY scenario I can think of, an AR would better suit me. However, since I don't have a big can or any thermal if I were hunting with you and YOU had one I'd help you get rid of some ammo.

Their audience may be the Ar crowd, I like AR's but that one is not for me, but I wish them well.

Buffalo Bill named his rifle "Lucretia Borgia." I'd say this one is more of a "RuPaul."
That's all I'm gonna say about that...

We rely on our 30/30's to be still with us if/when semi-auto "Assault Rifles" disappear from private citizens' hands. Make them Tactical Cool and they'll be gone too.

Well, I was at the SHOT Show last week. One of the items I looked at was the new S&W lever action rifle. While it was nice in general,, I found it to be what I'd call,,, in general,, "Ok." The action didn't have the often discussed "smoothness" of a S&W revolver. The appearance was a mix of traditional and modern. But it didn't have what I call the "clean flowing lines" of a Marlin or Winchester. The forend with the cut-outs to add attachments was in the wrong place. (They should have made the forend about 2" longer if they wanted to add such stuff.)
And as I was there,, I noticed a distinctly "lack-luster" response by the attendees of SHOT. Not a lot of folks bothered to look at it,, or even seemed interested. And this was at a timeframe when the S&W booth was full of people.
Overall impression? I'll still prefer the Marlin.
