Life is full of parallels. Those of us who missed out on the opportunity to meet The Dean of Sixgunning, Elmer Keith because of our youth still have some fine examples in life to emulate. In our time we have The Meathammer aka Dick Thompson.
The guy even has a cool name. Say it. Dick Thompson. It comes out so manly, like Mack Truck. Now you all know I love to pull on a guys chain but seriously, look around, open a book, WHO is the real thing today???
He hunts with a sixgun. He almost ALWAYS brings home the bacon too. Never, ever, EVER misses! In his spare time he guides close friends in for the kill himself, packs the meat out, dresses it, wraps it, and not only that has a wife who makes finger lickin' good fixin's out of it. I have met her and can tell you she is a complete DOLL too!
Keith had Judge Don Martin. The Meathammer has his own faithful companion Cantshoot. Steve is one of those guys who if you really knew anything about him you would know where the USMC got the motto, Semper Fidelis. One of those guys who would come get you out of burning building. If you went to Hell to throw snowballs at Satin, Cantshoot would tote the bucket.
I never got to meet The Grand Old Man or Judge Don Martin but I dont feel slighted. No Sir.

Now, if we could just get Dick to write some articles or a book of his exploits. The internet posts are great, but I'd like to see him in print!

My impression of Dick has been that he is a character and a half and a hell of a sixgunner. Always enjoy reading his posts and seeing the pictures he posts. I'd love to meet the feller and poke holes in some of his bunnies. `Course, that short dude down in Texas seems like a real piece of work too.

Dick Thompson. He posts under the handle "sixshot" here and on other fora. He is a fantastic hunter and sixgun shot. He is also incredibly humble about his abilities. Real class act.

Fermin is Dead on. Dick is a true gentleman and his wife is an amazing lady that could put 50 pounds on me in about 2 weeks with her cooking and I'm not kidding! I was fortunate enough to spend a week with them all last Fall and I had the best time of my life. Steve is a hoot, he even called today to say hello, friends like him are hard to find for sure. The entire Thompson family is a joy to be around and there is ALOT of talent in that family from cooking to shooting and hunting to making stocks and guns. They pretty much cover the field! If you haven't read some of Sixshot's hunting stories, you've really missed out. This guy has been there and done that and I love talking with him and taking in the experiences. I'm always learning something new! Thanks for helping out a slow country kid from MS

I love bear hunting and sixgunning. That makes "sixshot" my defacto hero! I save all of his stories in a folder. He has some great tips in his writings and they are always well written. On another forum I told him if he could stop hunting long enough he could pen a helluva book...
Did anyone mention any of his Dutch oven recipes he has shared...try his cobbler recipes, you'll see.
We are truly blessed to have someone like him sharing his experiences.
"So many bears and badgers...so little time"...
Keep 'em coming Mr. Thompson!

Dick Thompson is the real thing. I look forward to all his posts. Does and has done things most only dream about. And a gourmet dutch-oven chef to boot!

COR, a book? The Meathammer hunts something like 364 1/2 days a year. When would he have time to write a book?

Yeah, your probably right...He's already given me plenty of stuff just from here and the old site Lee had.
When I grow up I wanna be Sixshot. Now if I could only find a sidekick with a peg leg....
