The prices have been so high and volatile for so long how would we be able to tell if this numbed the prices up over the profiteering that has been going on for the last few years?
But I was happy that Sportsmans had std lrg pistol Fiocchi primers for $12.99/150 yesterday and was able to buy a brick. Hurt to do though but they were the first large pistol I have seen in a long time.
Powder cost is not the concerning part of the whole game to me, has always been primers.

I payed $130 for a brick of Winchester Large Rifle primers at Scheel’s in Johnstown Colorado last week. The manufacturers are profiteering, if anyone. The profit margins for sellers are not huge.

For most of my shooting I can get by with a faster powder and lighter weight charges to stretch a pound. But it still takes the same primer to go bang. They are the part that is driving up my per shot costs now.

Agreed, if you happen to spot any Alliant powders, they've really gone up, saw AR Comp at $60 a pound, thinking 2400 was close to that too, the bottle I have says $24.99 , it doesn't seem that long ago, since I bought that either

It's the same as old #9 using the same data. A touch slower than new #9, but I was happy with the old. There's no Universal or Trail Boss to be found. 11fs, H110, and 4227 everywhere but expensive.

I paid $169.00 for a brick of Small Rifle primers three months ago. The retailers in my area are surely getting their margin!

We feel the pressure to buy while we still can, and manufacturers and sellers take advantage of our fear. It’s a double feedback loop.

I shoot a lot of clays. Both sporting clays and skeet. The powders I use are all Alliant. I use Xtralite in the 12 gauge, 20/28 for 20 and 28 gauge and do shoot some .410 using 410 powder. With Alliant raising their prices more than Hogdgon I’m going to start looking at Hodgdon powders in the future. I have Probably 15-20 pounds of Xtralite and 20/28 so I good for a bit. Sounds like a lot but it goes fast. So Clays, Longshot and 296 may be in my future loads.
Shot is another issue at over $50 a bag. I shoot the 28 gauge the most since it only uses 3/4 oz loads.

Check Midway's prices on powder if you want some sticker shock; they have reached the point of being usurious.

Scheel’s had W244 on sale fr $15/lb for several months. I picked up 4 pounds for myself and 4 pounds for my friend, but I wish I’d picked up another 16 pounds. If they had 231 or tight group at that price I would’ve bought a heck of a lot more, but 244 is an unknown quantity to me as I have never used it.

Quite a few years ago I settled W231 as my go-to powder for most of my handgun loads. Don't shoot a lot of full house magnum loads these days, so 231 meets most of my needs. The last I bought was in 2018 from Black Hills shooters supply and the price for an 8lb keg was $151.65 if you bought 4 or more kegs (4 fit in a case). We bought a LOT and have been cruising on that supply since. Winchester primers BTW averaged less than $130/case of 5K. These prices INCLUDED shipping. A couple of years ago, we had to buy some A#9 for our 10mm bear load and almost choked on the $50/lb. price of that. Having seen this movie a few times before this current SH*T show, we are REALLY glad we stocked up when we did. Hopefully prices will stabilize in the near future and when they do, we'll be buying again. For now, we are good-to-go for at least a couple of more years and are leaving the inventory in the 2 local gun stores for the desperate.

About 10 days ago I bought a 8 pound jug of IMR 7828 SSC to fuel some Weatherby calibers. Paid $389 locally. I bit my lip, carried it to the counter and paid the price. Today I realize it might of been a bargain!
