Sorry guys, I’ve just never been able to post pictures from my iPad and it looks like I can. I had a recent update on my iPad and it has a resize feature that it never had, and I grabbed a pic of my new Jack Russell puppy. Her name is Molly and she’s a pistol ! Again, sorry for the hijack. Woah don’t keep it a secret! How does one post a picture from an iPad??

Woah don’t keep it a secret! How does one post a picture from an iPad?? Well, I”’ll probably have to do it again as my memory sucks and I’m not sure what I did. Let’s see, hit “Add Attatchment” in the top right corner, then hit “add files” in the box that pops up. This will bring another pop-up that gives three choices. Pick photo library. On my ipad, after you pick a photo, you hit options in the extreme lower left corner and that will bring you to a page with options to resize. I chose small for Molly’s picture. I’m gonna try medium and see what happens.

Red oak burl rescued from the fire pit after it was on fire. Cut to thickness and shape plus clearance on the bandsaw. Fit the outline with rasps but shaped with die grinders. Not perfect, and still a little fat to my hand but easier to remove wood than to replace it. I’m going to make another run at slimming things up before sealing the surface. The burl is easy to chip and I’m afraid it may be damaged under heavy recoil. Fortunately the 44 special Bisley is pretty mild. For those thinking about it, the rasps are slow and time is precious. I would like to claim all hand work, but the carbide burr and flapper wheel are much faster. Now to see if I can attach the photos!?!?? Best regards, Randy Red oak, that’s harder than woodpecker lips 😉 I have a couple of Bo Staffs from Okinawa made from red oak and it’s tough stuff. The grips/stocks look good.

Glad you got them posted...just logged on to post for you. Looks great, and nothing to be ashamed about re first attempt...probably much better than I would do first time out.

Mr Bradshaw, If you want to give the die grinders another try, may I suggest installing a 6’ or so direct plumbed 1/4” whip line on the tail of the grinder. It reduces weight and increases flexibility. A side benefit is reducing air flow for a lower max rpm. The die grinder’s larger chuck lets you swing larger diameter tools for a smoother cut with less opportunity to gouge the grip versus the Dremel. Here is the tubing I use: www.mcmaster.com/product/5635K98Sure wish I could watch an experienced grip maker work. I’m sure an hour observing would cut a year from the learning curve. Best, Randy

Might reach out to MD Grips...they're outta Tennessee and do a lot of the local (SE) gun shows...I'm just outside B'ham,AL and see them a lot. They work in horn/antler, but focus almost exclusively on single actions (plow handle and bisley). mdgrips.com/

Lost count on linseed oil coats but couldn’t develop any sheen. Finally used a few coats of a poly based finish. Not bad for a first attempt with wood I pulled from a bonfire. If you missed my description, it is burl from a red oak log cut for firewood. It reminds me of the CW McCall song “Wolf Creek Pass” with the line about road curves that looked like a can full of worms and the next looked like malaria germs. 🤣😊 The color is the same, but one pic was inside and the other was outside in sunlight. . I’m a fan of red oak, both for fires and cabinets. I burn only red oak in my fireplace and we have red oak cabinets throughout our house. I am now a fan of red oak grip panels ! Yours look great !
