Well, my season is now over. I only had (2) antlered deer tags. Knowing what was coming up today, tomorrow & Saturday,, I knew I wouldn't have much time to hunt. Plus,, the weather was much better yesterday for hunting.
Dick,, if I recall correctly,, wasn't your deer a mule deer with the Bradshaw/Martin? If so,, you have the first one overall, and the first mulie. I have the first whitetail,, as far as we know. Hey,, maybe I'm the first one to use the RW-2Dogs sights on a deer? Anybody got any better info??? Anybody???
That 9 pointer hasn't made a camera appearance in about a month. Either he's been killed or hasn't slipped back into my area. (Part of why I decided to go ahead & take the one above.) I have a couple of places the deer call their "core" areas,, unless chasing does a lot. I'm going to keep my cameras going for at least another month to see what survives the hunting season,, and what to hopefully expect for next year.
bigbore5,, by all means good luck on getting one with the Bradshaw/Martin bullet.

Hoping to get one tomorrow or Monday, in the Davie / Iredell area with the 44 Bfr or 1911 45.
If no deer then a feral hog will work next week too lol.

Yep,sure enough on the Pointe property where the Big Yadkin and little Yadkin meet. All in that area where Davie, Davidson , And Rowan County all meet in that point. People who visit Boones Cave see the hogs regularly.
Some folks have found them a little farther down the river on some game land down near Salisbury.

I used to hunt groundhog on the Knox family farm right on the Iredell/Rowan line. Too far to drive for just whistle pig now that I am on the SC line, but for pigs maybe I should give them a call.

Yesterday,, I took my metal detector to the woods where I hunt and killed this deer. I knew about where he'd been standing when I shot,, so I had a good idea of where to look for that wonderful Bradshaw/Martin bullet. I marked a starting point,, and using it as a reference,, I began my search. After about 1-1/2 hours of serious patterning & overlapping the search area,, the bullet still escapes me. BUT,, I did find out that (a) at some point an old fence was in the area,, as I found a lot of pieces of it. (b),, due to my gun range nearby,, the (3) odd .45 acp bullets I found made me scratch my head as to why they made it there, and (c) I DID find the gas check off the Bradshaw/Martin bullet.
The gas check was about 3 ft or so away from where I thought he had been. Aligning that find,,and my stand,, I really covered some dirt. yet,, between the fencing metal,, and my frustrations I'm about to believe Dick was right. That bullet is still going strong away from here. But I'll try again at some point. It was good to find the gas check,, and excited me. But somehow,, between finding it,, and my return home,, I managed to lose it again.
And since I hunt this bottoms a lot & have taken quite a few deer here with my Contender,, I did find a couple of my 7x30 Waters bullets from long ago. Well aged looking,, but still neat to find. Interestingly,, usually the jackets separated from the cores.
I may go back out again in a few days,, if work give me the time to do so.
