The excellent post by sqawberryman on his newly acquired Model 37 got me thinking about other Police Shotguns owned by Forum Members. Mine is my Winchester Stainless Marine gifted to me upon retirement from the department. Let’s see what other makes and models are out there!

I got a "what for" years ago when I made reference to shotguns of that type as "non sporting". I'm not sure why a guy on a gun forum would cower like that, saying I was giving ammo to the nuts. How about this, if a pile of guns falls on a guy and breaks his neck and kills him, guess what Guns kill people. Go turkey hunt with that thing sixgun, tell us how you do. Great gun. I sold my space shuttle signaling Winchester but I didn't earn mine, and thank you for that. Mine was so shiny you could see it in the dark!

I really like pumpers, my BPS is a real clay smoker and shooters on the line dislike the bottom eject because you can't see an open bolt, hint to them... look at the fore-end stock? :-)
Anyway I've had an 870 of one sort or another for many years. Currently it's a 1966 Wingmaster. I read that 11,000,000 870's were made!

Former police shotguns.... I've had 3 Benelli M2's and an M1 that were, but other than the receivers being chewed up from the the locking mount in a cruiser, they pretty much look like all the rest. lol

To say that I love that Winchester Marine would be to understate my enthusiasm for it!

Here’s my constant companion in my truck. I love 870’s and have way too many to count. Lol. They are so easy to built/put together. I buy stripped receivers and always come across barrels to use. They are so simple and Reliable. Also have quite a few short barreled shotguns. Ithaca, browning BPS, Remington 870’s and 1100’s, Benelli M1. You can’t beat a good shotgun for defense. Choice of slugs, birdshot, buckshot. Versatility. I will take a shotgun over an AR anytime.

I also keep several old 870 police mags placed throughout the house and shop. There was a time you could buy a good trade-in 870 for $150. I think Kings has some now for $250. I always had a thing for the 20” barrels with rifle sights as that’s what I used for years. We also had Wingmasters with 28” barrels.

So for 270 you get a gun that won't be worn out. Put in a tool steel extractor, maybe a big head safety or aluminum follower. All day long. Here's the wall. Left side from top to bottom: Ithaca 37 riot gun slamfire, 37 DS Police Special non slam fire, Winchester 1300 stainless, 870 folder with extension tube, Ohio National Guard 870 from Sportsman's warehouse WITH MK4 bayonet mount, M4 with factory breacher, M4 with flag on it registered 14", The 22 just lives there until I get straps made. Right side: Mossberg 590A1 with heat shield, Enidine energy absorber with Magpul stock, Savage 720 that was issued to my wife's grandfather in Egypt in WWII, Mossberg 590A1 bought used and cheap with a Streamlight forearm and orange stock by choice, TMT Tac-14 20 gauge. The 870 ONG guard gun was something I should have bought ten of. I did not know when I got it the bayonet mount sells for four hundred and above. By the time I figured it out they were gone. That gun (or the folding version) were selling on GB for 1K. The TMT Tac-14 is a 20 and fun. TMT no longer modifies guns. I drove by theeir place when we were on vacation this year.

The two outside guns were police M2. And despite the Omni Consumer Products logo on the stock, it did not belong to the Detroit Police department. Thinking about it, I've had a few used police guns. Off the top of my head... a few S&W M10s and Glock 19s from the NYPD. One of the Singapore Webleys, a German P7, a few SIGs from who knows where, 4 Benelli, one Ruger PC4 from I forget which agency and a Colt AR from the Phoenix PD.

The rack rash.... this one was the worse of the two. So naturally it's the one I kept. Because I'm a genius. (I decided I didn't need the other one and I'd sell it. Gunbroker auction, nice starting price... and there it stayed. It sold for almost $300 less than I paid. The guy who got it is probably still giggling to himself about it. I still regret it years later and tried to make up for it by buying a couple more. It didn't help.) There are no Benelli's in Robocop and certainly no M2s, but what the heck. (though a quick net search says there were M3's in Robocop 2, a movie of which I have zero recollection lol)

I have a 870 that rode a lot of miles in a sheriff’s car but appears to have been fired very little. Years ago, John Gallagher threaded it for chokes. Figured it would be cool to have options on the 18” barrel. Bought all the pieces to clone my 870 from Wilson Combat but never have got around to doing it.
