I currently have 3 projects in the planning stages. #1- RUGER MAX FRAME, 6SHOT, UNDECIDED AS TO CALIBER PRESENTLY, AM HUGE .44 BORE FAN BUT MAYBE IT'S TIME FOR MY S&W M57 TO GET A BIG BROTHER? #2-RUGER VAQUERO, 6SHOT, .475 COOPER/.476SPECIAL, 5.5" BARREL LENGTH MAX, WILL BE BANDED WITH DOVETAILED FRONT, MIGHT ADD S&W REAR MAYBE, STANDARD, BISLEY OR #5 GRIP FRAME HAS YET TO BE DECIDED,CYLINDER WILL BE A LINEBORED RE CHAMBERING OF FACTORY, FLUTED VS. UN-FLUTED IS UNDECIDED AT PRESENT BUT EITHER OPTION WILL BE AVAILABLE #3- BFR, LONG FRAME .45-70 TO A .475 JDJ?? THIS WILL ONLY MEAN A RECHAMBER/REBARREL AND REALLY WON'T DO ANYTHING THAT CAN'T DO WITH EXISTING BFRs IN .45-70 or .500S&W BUT I AM FOND OF .475 BORE HANDGUNS!!! ANY SUGGESTIONS WILL BE CONTEMPLATED AS THERE ARE ALOT OF UNDECIDED ISSUES WITH EACH PROJECT AND TIME ISN'T AN ISSUE AS WE ARE OVERLOADED AT PLANT SO MY TIME IN MY SHOP IS LIMITED AND CURRENTLY ,LOL, I HAVE TO FIND THE BASES GUNS FOR ALL 3!!! DO KNOW WHERE CAN GET TWO OF THEM EASILY BUT THE VAQUEROS ARE HARD TO COME BY CURRENTLY IN NORTH MISSISSIPPI. ALSO WHEN TIME ACTUALLY COMES AVAILABLE TO DO ANYOF THESE WILL BE HAPPY TO DO SOMETHING SIMILAR TO LEE'S .44SPECIAL POST THAT HE'S WORKING ON PRESENTLY

I like your project choices. I have almost identical twin projects going for #1 & #2.
Max frame will become a 5 shot long cylinder 414 supermag with top strap rewelded and machined to match FA so a Lovell scope base will fill. Bisleyfied with octagon barrel and hopefully it will be a long range toy. Alan Harton got the nod on this one.
#2 is almost done and it is a 6 shot 45 using a full length Max cylinder linebored to 45, bisley vaquero with Clements rear sight and Gallagher 5 1/2" octagon barrel. Ben Forkin is doing the work on this one.
See great minds run amuck, ah, I mean alike!

The 475 Cooper, aka 48 Special, is an intriguing cartridge, and much more practical than my 6-shot 505. I'd like to have one someday. Just remember that cylinder is really thin at the bolt notches.

yes it will be and due to that it is my intention to keep the pressures down pretty low. have been considering this one for few years but haven't pushed it up to the front burner yet! all of my calculations mirror what some other people have found, that the walls will be as thick as a Colt SAA in .45. so am thinking not mush over 14000psi & definitely staying under 20k. i have a 308g mold that came from a minor lack of communication back before Walt Melander passed away. that slug and a dose of TrailBoss should put me where i want to be for performance. am not wanting it to be a .480Ruger or .475Linebaugh. already got that option. this is to be an overgrown everyday woods bumming/plinking revolver

Any chance a fellow could convince you to turn out a second .475 Cooper Vaquero while you are tooled up? And Cannon, that is the picture I was looking for when I was asking about the .475 special in another thread.

1. 44Special Vaquero, CCH frame, blued barrel/cylinder/pins, brass gripframe I've been hoarding for a few years, 5.5" barrel, Ron Power half cock kit, probably Harton's rear sight setup/Weigand front, probably secons 44WCF cylinder
2. 41 B&W Magnum (or 41 GNR #1 undecided as of yet) on blued Blackhawk, 6.5", Power #5 frame, Bowen rear sight, Weigand front, steel ERH, Power Half Cock kit
When I find the gun to d othe first one on, and the money to do both of them

After I finish my 44 Special conversion, I have these lined-up: 1) 585 Nyati on a Brevex Mauser action 2) Rebarrel my 264 Win Mag (built on a Mauser 98). I haven't shot it out yet, but want to upgrade to Shilen tube. I'm also going to change out the stock to laminate 3) OM flattop conversion to 38-40 (hope to add one of the new #5 gripframes when available). Blued with case-hardened frame, trigger, & hammer. Barrel will be 5.5". -Lee www.singleactions.com

The 41 B&W is what I named tha t41 wildcat I been dreaming up, 240Weatherby brass, cut short and necked up to a 41. The B&W is a culmination of my last name, and Mr. Weatherby's since I'm using his custom one off brass

Thanks for clarifying. One reason I asked is United Sporting Arms built two prototype Sevilles in 41 B&M Magnum back in 1986 (it was 445 SuperMags necked to 41 and chambered in their stretch frame). I missed a chance to buy one of the two years ago. Still hurts to this day. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Isn't a 445 necked down what is now known as a 41 GNR something or the other?

will probably go with #2 first actually. it's been on the list longest and i already have half of a chrome moly PacNor blank left from my 5shot .480 Bisley a couple of years back. plus i can cut the shorter chamber with my existing reamer. the max frame gun is being held for me @ local dealer and have almost decided that while its not a MINT gun or even close that given its rarity and unmodified condition i think will keep it as is. who knows maybe i will fall in love with with the .357MAX since i already have a proper heavy bullet mold, but there could always be that chance that maybe, just maybe it's a contary thing that don't shoot that well- THEN IT'S OFF TO THE SHOP FOR SEVERE ALTERATIONS!!
