That gun is COOL. Who cares what it's "worth". Offer him a thousand bucks and take it home . It would probably cost $3000 and a couple of years to have it made.

The Georgia Patrol Guns were made in 1988, not 1998...this serial number dates to a 25-5 made in 1986....
According to the "Book" there were 40 "contract overun" guns assembled with a mixture of parts... Quite possibly S&W used some 25-5 frames to complete them...
The "real" GP guns are marked so....

Intriguing ... Sounds like this was lost in a warehouse, found, and lost in another warehouse.

Based on what I see it looks like a Bowen. The lanyard ring appears to be Bowen rather than factory S&W anyway. Was thinking the barrel caliber markings looked to be Bowen's style, but read in the letter that it is a factory 5" barrel. A very interesting piece.

The gun is at a gunshop and was taken there to be consigned/posted for sale on Gunbroker. The Gunshop owner told me about it and is holding it for me and is waiting for the owner of the gun to get back with him to see if he will take the offer or wants to go ahead with a Gunbroker posting . The wait is killing me

If you like it buy it, pay the price it takes if you can. 5" barrel N frames are scarce, and I see what the mountain guns like that go for.
Just my advice having missed several guns hemming and hawing over price that I regretted later.

Point taken . I made the offer with the admission that I didn't know exactly where to start, so if that figure doesn't work , than give me an idea of what you want and we will go from there .

Good job Kooz! A properly dimensioned N frame with a 5” barrel checks all the boxes!
