Nice one! How did it take it? And what happened to your weatherwool?? Ha! Another Weatherwool fan. It wasn't cold enough for the Weatherwool so it was King of the Mountain Wool day. I'm a neck shooter on deer to save meat and that .475 hit that buck like a drunken soccer mom driving a school bus. DSCN1805 by WARDOG, on Flickr DSCN1804 by WARDOG, on Flickr With a description like that I feel like I saw it myself haha! I don’t own any weatherwool pieces, but I have been waiting for them to come into stock in my size. That Lynx pattern is pretty sharp I think, in addition to the warmth factor of course!

You northern guys and your big bodied deer......
Good for you, sir. Revolver hunting at it's finest. Wouldn't mind having a bit more meat on the bones of these Oklahoma bucks.

You come down here and hunt these coastal South Texas Whitetails and you are going to think coyotes are coming to the deer feeder.

I was years into young adulthood before I ever realized deer and jackrabbits are not the same size everywhere else.

Late to the party here, but better late than never. Wardog, that is a fine looking Idaho whitetail. Great shooting, you must practice a lot and be a hell of a woodsman to stalk in on wary whitetail in that terrain. May I ask what red dot you used as well as what part of the state you’re in? I’m in NW Wyoming and we have some whitetail here and I sure love to hunt em, but they’re typically in cottonwoods and willows in rocky river bottom flats. I’m guessing you’re i. The northern side of the state? All the best.

Great job all the way around. Weatherwool and Sleeping Indian at home here too... Very nice Idaho buck in my favorite big bore cartridge! Please tell me more about Weatherwool and Sleeping Indian hunting clothing. I’m a big ASAT fan and wool sources for that pattern basically gone as so is the pattern now, other than cotton.

.... May I ask what red dot you used as well as what part of the state you’re in? ... I'm in north central Idaho, between Mount Idaho and Elk City. It's a beautiful spot in the mountains overlooking the Clearwater River. I use Trijicon RMR's and Trijicon SRO's with the fine 1 moa dot on my revolvers. The SRO's give a greater field of view over the RMR's, which can be important if the target animal is mixed in with others. I use shooting sticks if given the opportunity, especially if the target is beyond 50 yds with my old eyes. I practice quite a bit with several big bore revolvers. I pack either my FA83 .475 LB or JRH Custom .500 JRH during elk season. It's on my bucket list to take an elk with a revolver. I have been close enough in the past but didn't have a perfect shot. I carry a rifle because most elk are at 300 - 450 yds. I have taken many deer with pistols because during the November rut they aren't paying attention.

... Please tell me more about Weatherwool and Sleeping Indian hunting clothing.... Sleeping Indian and King of the Mountain are very similar with wool quality, camo patterns and design. They are very warm and durable. WeatherWool out of New Jersey doesn't offer typical camo patterns, but they offer a 'Lynx Pattern' which is quite effective for camo. My opinion is WeatherWool is the finest USA made, 100% USA wool available. It is so soft most people don't think it is wool. It is also VERY warm and comfortable at varying temperature ranges. All three are expensive but worth the price if you hunt in the cold for extended periods. If you go with wool outer clothing, use wool undergarments and mid layer as well. It all works together to wick away moisture and keep you warm even if you get wet.

Up in Troy, MT someone may have purchase Sleeping Indian or they have re-ignited the mill they were using. I have them saved on InstaGram. I can look it up.
Also, you posted about direct mount to BFRs. I am not (unfortunately) in Spokane and no longer in Bonners. But Griffon Hill mounts, Dan, he a local here. I intended to grab a revolver plate from him to put on a Stainless Bisley for load development and possible hunting.
I had a brand new BFR in 454 and wanted to see if it would fit. The fit with the shims was perfect, so I drilled the sight base for the BFR and tapped in the pin. Mounted a HoloSun until I can find a 2 MOA SRO to swap.
Works well so far. Very consistent. BUT....I've not beat the balls off it yet or subject it to hard use or carry. Just relaying that even though it states Ruger revolver, the "meat" of the base lined right up and offered plenty of surface for the pin. $70 I think
