I don't have enough 1911 experience to have a strong opinion on guide rods. But front serrations are an aesthetic abomination. Just like a man's opinion on what a pretty woman is. We all have different opinions.

For sure, just like some purists will not accept a beaver tail, extended slide stop / mag release, magwell, guide rods, supported chambers or even for that matter ANY caliber but a .45 in ONLY a Colt.

Ascetically I don't like them, functionally though I'd take them over rear serrations which I rarely use. I've often wondered about a custom gun with no rear serrations, but with fronts only (and how ugly it would be).
I will say most front serrations would probably be better off a little farther back, again functionally. They'd be less symmetrical. Or just put one set, right in front of the ejection port. Yeah it would be ugly too.
My big change was when I started shooting CZ75 style guns, originally a couple Tanfoglio, later a real CZ. I started using the web of my hand to rack the slide, being much faster and more reliable than trying to grab the smaller section of slide available. Leading me to believe that serrations of stippling on the top of the slide would be just as useful, if not more, than side serrations in many cases. For certain on the CZ75 types.
