Hi all, I am trying to get a dovetail cut in my NV for a front sight and had a few questions. I'm looking at this sight: www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=26048/Product/POST_FRONT_SIGHTSProblem is, those sight heights are measured to bottom of the dovetail. I know I need it to extend 0.345" above the top of the barrel, but I have no idea how deep the dovetail cut is? Also, is there even enough meat in this .45 barrel to cut a dovetail? Looks a little skinny... I'd appreciate any help, thanks, Pete

Most of the base thicknesses run from .07" to .075" for this type of sight.

As Kurt said. 070 - .075 for handgun sights, that XS sight looks deeper, you can shave the bottom if your set on that sight. FA sells nice dove tail front sights, 3 heights and they have a set screw. No white line though. Here is the FA sight I installed on my Bisley Vaquero.

Thanks yall - looks good Salvo, but I was looking for the white line. Any idea if this barrel even has enough meat to take the deeper dovetail cut?

You would need to take a few careful measurements, like I said before you can remove material from the bottom of the sight and cut the dove tail width to fit the altered sight. Another problem you may run into is the width of the sight blade. You may need to machine or file the sides a bit or open up the rear notch or both.
