I just couldn’t live with the white plastic grips on my 454 and 500L BFR’s so I sent the grip frames to Chad at Chig’s Grips. He had a nice chunk of Claro Walnut crotch that he cut them out of. He also made them thicker across the back to suit my big hands. I couldn’t be happier with the result and it only took 3 weeks from the time I shipped off the frames.

They look great, is the wood stabilized or is it strong enough to hold up to the recoil without it. I really need to get him to make a set for me too.

Chad does great work, and those are some good examples of that.

My 500L wears Chigs grips too! Those plastic grips cracked from a short fall. Those deserve good quality grips.

Chad did a set of grips of Aspen wood for my BFR 454 five years ago. I was warned that Aspen may be too soft and wouldn’t hold up, but this set is still perfect after five hunting seasons. This gun is hunted with, not a safe gun. imgur.com/a/DNQFsEu

Looks great. Working with him now on my Ruger Redhawk So are you getting a set of insert scales for a rubber grip, or is he making you a full solid wood set? I'm very interested in seeing some of his solid wood sets on Redhawks.

He told me if I was local he might do a set for one of my N frames. I Use Culina, but it costs more and takes longer. I'm no carpenter despite all the wood I've cut. When I'm done with wood it's generally fit to set on fire. Cheaper than #2 fuel oil though.
