Just joined to find myself a topic of discussion. I must admit that I do react differently to online interactions in that I've done enough of them I don't always trust responses from folks that don't seem to have or want any identity. Likewise I've had literally dozens of phone calls from guys that just want to TALK about their imagined project but don't want to commit to anything in actuality. I have been known to be short with folks like that because I'm usually very busy with projects.
As I've wound down my 35 year custom gunmaking career I've done more projects for myself and revolver grip making and gun restoration have been a big part of that. I've always enjoyed revolvers since the first Ruger Blackhawk .357 I bought in Ketchikan about 1972. I collect S&W double action and Colt SAA in .44 Special and like to make grips for both, but NOT FOR SALE. The above Ruger Grips were made for myself and I kept them when I sold the gun.i wanted to find someone who appreciated them.
Here is a revolver Smith never made that I always thought they should have. A M-31-1, 4" that Dave Clements made for me adjustable rear and taller front sights as a favor. I made and checkered the Roper style English walnut target grips I had some medallions gold plated for my grip projects. The gun was completely hand polished and rust blued, with nitre blued screws in my shop. 32/32 Kit Gun 1910 Colt converted to .44Sp and fully restored with English walnut 1-piece grips. Custom S&W magnas being checkered

Steven, glad to see you made it over here! It truly is a rare drama free place and full of guys who appreciate the type of work and artistry you perform. I can not wait for the grips to arrive later this week and see how they fit in the Stroh 44 Special. Like I mentioned earlier, worse case scenario I find a Ruger FTT to buy just to give the grips a place to live! I’ve boughten more than one gun just go with a special set of grips!

Steven, payment headed out for a copy of your book on custom rifles. Interesting that you posted the Marlin 44 mag. It looks nearly identical to my Marlin 41 Ben Forkin recently finished gif me.

Welcome Mr. Hughes,……Steven. I vaguely recall looking at some of your rifle work years ago when I was contemplating a .400 Whelen. That project went sideways and never got off the ground, but I do remember the pleasure of looking at good peoples work.
Hopefully you remain a regular poster here and not just because of being a topic. Your experience will definitely be appreciated.

I have the custom rifles book and read your column first in the Sports Afield publication. One of my favorites is the Marlin 36 in 38-55 you did that was on the cover of accurate rifle magazine.
