While on the topic of gunsmithing Contenders, I've put four new Weaver 92A bases on four barrels and every hole in every base had to be deepened to get more than two threads into a screw hole, using the screws Weaver supplied. While I was at it, I flattened the end of every screw to get rid of the excess taper and cleaned up the end of the screw and the threads. I cleaned out each screw hole with acetone and chased the internal threads with a very fine dental pick. This affords me four and a half threads in each hole, doing their work.
Try each screw separately, tightening it down to make sure it doesn't bottom out and let the base wiggle. A drop of blue Loctite on each and it's good to go.
I really dislike the way the front of the Weaver base is cantilevered, but it doesn't matter much since all four screws are in the back half of the base. I've been tempted to buy different bases and drill two more holes in each barrel, but the current setup seems to work just fine for the relatively sedate cartridges I'm shooting. It does just look funny to me though, so unless I am adopted in absentia by a dying Nigerian prince who wants to leave me billions, AND I find the time to drill eight new holes and rezero four carbines, I'll live with it.

SBM, it's missing the extendable tripod with wheels.
