It's my understanding that the Flatsides were to be rare too. Something about having to hand pick flawless specimens from cast frames to make them from. Maybe they got that corrected? I do know there are other designs planned for the future. Looking at the price - same for either - I sort of think what you're thinking. Maybe they got it corrected?
They could probably even do custom engraving to individualize these things for presentations or just personalization for the vain.
"Thanks for all the years of great work, Jeff," on one side of a Flat-Side would beat the heck out of the traditional "gold watch!"

I went ahead and fiddled with the action/barrel again. No dice. Pushed out the trigger -guard hinge pin and the barrel pivot pin and got the two separated.
Removed the bolts and stoned the sides (outsides) lightly and then the top surface even more lightly. Cleaned the spring (must have been a suspension spring from a 1960s GMC 3/4 ton) and reassembled. Closed AND opens now. Slightly balky opening, but they tend to smooth up with some use, so I'll leave it at that.
The trigger is typical of an untouched Contender trigger, but will clean up nicely, with minimal effort/adjustment. The action is clean as a pin inside. Haven't seen that in an American-made arm since buying a KAHR CW45.
Overall, I'm pretty tickled with the workmanship on these things. OK, VERY tickled. I like this a lot! Time for the pendulum to swing the other way in firearms - for people serious about firearms - people interested in doing more than making noise and churning up the berm.

Agreed...the machine work/tolerances and finish of these New SSK-50 Frames are spectacular.
I've got a rare TC Carbine 44 Special Barrel that is screaming for a Flatside Two Tone Frame and Gray Laminated Stock Set.
I'm into fun guns these days. Especially of the cast bullet variety...

Picked mine up today also, and must agree that they are machined very well! Have to find me a grip / stock now. Think this one is staying as a handgun. I have not tried my 41 magnum or 30 Gnr barrel yet, will wait for a grip.
I am impressed , may just order the flat side.
Forgot say, I really like the 2 tone look also!

Well, I couldn't wait to see if my 2 barrels would fit or not. Neither of my barrels will close completely. Dang it! So some minor fitting must be done, anyone have some "how to" steps ?
Somebody mentioned that Marty had some instructions on how to do the fitting. Can someone point me to that? Thanks guys!

My Flatside Frame arrived at my LGS today. Work will be busy and prevent me picking it up for a few days.
I look forward to adding it to my other frames...
