On my last annual visit the nurse asked if I knew what date it was. I guessed she was seeing if I had some level of dementia. I answered honestly that I did not know. She seemed a bit concerned and asked if I could get close? I just laughed and told her “I’m retired and really don’t care what date it is. I don’t even care what day of the week it is. They are all Saturday to me.”😉
The funny part was her persistence. She started giving me “hints” so she could check the right box.

"Nobody is going to provide bad care if you're a jerk, but you will get bare bones treatment and sent on your way. People know better than to treat their mechanic poorly, or their waiter, but when you get someone with enough professionalism to not retaliate that's probably not the time to take your frustrations out on someone trying to help you."
I've heard stories... of which, i'll just say... people - including physicians - tend to provide the best services and go above and beyond for those who are appreciative and friendly.

I can say that living in NY and seeing Healthcare people frequently, I have never been asked about gun ownership on any assessment. Also in 30+ years of healthcare and completing 100s of assessments to include psychosocial and health risks, I have never asked any one about gun ownership. Now at the VA, they do assess my level of PTSD and suicide risks, but nothing else related to gun ownership. Same here. I live in NY and have never been asked about firearms in my home. But this is gun country so everyone has guns, shoots, hunts etc. including most doctors so they wouldn’t ask.

I either decline to answer or just respond 'nunya.' Both your answers say "yes" Whatever. I give the same response when they ask other stupid questions. One doctor's office wanted to know my wife's maiden name. Why? They didn't have a good answer, so they didn't get an answer to their stupid question, either.
