The Gun was returned today fully refurbished with the tan grips... Did it have tan grips to begin with? Nope...

Looking for information on this silver sight leaf. All the ones I've seen have been black...

Well, it's a beauty for sure! You've got more options than a Contender.

I was a little shocked when looking at FA83 Caliber Choices.
The 357, 41, 44 and 475 are only available with auxiliary cylinders that shoot shorter cartridges. Some don't even have that option.
The 50 Wyoming Express is available with a 50 AE Cylinder. But, with the 50 WE Brass problems, that's a poor option at this point.
That left the 454 Casull with a 45 ACP Cylinder. Without a doubt the most versatile choice.
Power levels from mild paper punching to hunting the world's biggest game.

But, good information and I appreciate it.
The gun had a scope base on it when I traded for it. I got this sight from a friend.
I'm pretty weak on my FA knowledge. So, all information is good information...

You have yourself an awfully good looking revolver.

That is super nice and the grips are extrordinary. If is shoots as good as it looks (being a FA I would expect it to) it is a winner.

Terrific revolver. Nothing you can’t do with that one. The rear sight is indeed from a Field Grade gun and the base is aluminum, thus the grey look. The Premiere Grade sight base is steel. If memory serves me (it’s been a while since I had a FG) the sight blade will be drift adjustable the same as the Model 97. The PG 83 sight is click adjustable for windage.

Finally dug out some generic (Light) 454 Casull loads and shot the gun off the bench.
At 25 Yards, all groups were 1.5" and under when I did my part. There's no doubt the gun can do better, but that's about my limit.
Keeping in mind I'm shooting with open sights right now...

It really came back brand new, excellent choices on the upgrades, and still less that new production

By time I get the 45 ACP Cylinder cut for the Auto Rim, I will have saved $1500+ compared to a new one.
Of course, it's difficult to value trade fodder.
I've got just about the price of a New Field Grade 83 tied up in this gun. But, of course, it's a Premier Grade with dual cylinders, action job, overtravel screw, custom front sight, tan grips, etc.
Most of the forum members are experienced in wheeling and dealing. Keeping trade fodder and cash on hand really does come in handy...

One more shameless plug for an excellent product...
This being my forth 454 Casull Revolver, I purchased "The Complete Reloading Manual for the 454 Casull."
Glancing thru it, I can only say it's an invaluable resource.
Rarely do we need full power 454 Casull Loads.
This Manual has data that mimics 45 Colt with faster burning powders. Ditto on midrange loads that duplicate 44 Mag Levels with bullets that were never intended to be pushed to full 454 Casull Velocities. Lastly, of course, plenty of 454 Casull Full Power Loads with most bullet options.
A versatile gun is only useful if you have information to work with. I like work up loads, but it's sure nice to have data to start with...

Grade. Although I'm not sure what that means, if anything, in practical terms. ***** There was no Premier Grade until the Field Grade was released. To lower the price on the Model 83 for IHMSA silhouetters, Freedom Arms provided a bead blast finish to reduce labor. The standard Model 83 with brushed finish thus became the Premier Grade. As noted, the rear sight lacks the windage click of the Premier iron sight. The Silhouette Model 83 was finished with Pachmayr neoprene grip, not wood. Internally, Premier and Field grades are the same. Around 1985, in Idaho, I asked Wayne Baker, “What can you do to get the price down on the Model 83?” "Eliminate the brushed finish,” said Baker. “That’s labor intensive.” Freedom Arms wasn’t about to degrade performance. FA precision is the most consistent I’ve experienced from any pistol or rifle manufacturer. David Bradshaw

Odin, Bigmuddy and Bradshaw....THANKS for the information.
I did most certainly assemble parts from multiple sources to minimize expenses and still get the gun I wanted.
Equally obvious, my FA knowledge is lacking...
This gun makes my 8th FA, but my first FA83. So, all input is welcomed.
