I had a single action only model 14 years ago. That is one 38 I wish I had back. The six inch model 14 was SAO when I bought. Owner must have sent her back to S&W for conversion.... Anyway, I also sent back to S&W for double/single action. They returned the SAO parts that I have in parts bin.....

First handgun I ever had was a Model 10 or M&P (can't remember if it had a model number). Early 60s and Dad had a summer fellowship to Univ of Calif Berkley. I spent a fair amount of that month roaming gun and army surplus stores (yes Berkley CA). I spotted a Ruger Bearcat that I wanted. Got Dad to go with me for a look see. He took one look at the little Bearcat and said we need a real gun and pointed to the M&P -- this 14 year old kid couldn't have been happier.

At one point in my desert combing days I decided I wanted indestructible, fearless to carry revolver. It had to be easy to feed and carry plus be impervious to water, dirt and tidy up easily. Y"all know, what Taffin defined as the PPP. Lastly it needed to not break the bank if it was lost somewhere. Ended up with this retired police Mod. 67 and Micarta grips. Once more tidied up only the rear sight reveals what a life it's had. A common uninspiring revolver exceptional only in its ability to accomplish its prescribed duties.

She`s a good looking packin pistol..

I used to deride the lowly .38 and scoff at the .357 in favor of .44s and .45s. I picked up a model 65 for a song and had a few thousand pieces of .38spl brass that came with miscellaneous reloading equipment. Figured what the heck and loaded up a bunch of 158gr cast at around 900fps. Next thing you know I had bought a model 10 and just recently a new production model 66. The cartridge is a pleasure to reload and shoot. It's extremely versatile when handloaded and does not leave me feeling undergunned.
One of the few great pleasures of getting older is recognizing and embracing the misconceptions of my youth.

Next thing you know I had bought a model 10 and just recently a new production model 66. Most "collectors" deride the newly made Mod. 66-8 due to the lock and the 2 piece barrel. And just because its new! Such a shame because it really does well what it is supposed to do, SHOOT.
