FWIW I owned a blue 44 about 40 years ago. I'm thinking I need another. Maybe stainless and blue versions. Spied the 45 ACP Pitbull a few years back out front as a used gun. As a used gun I was allowed to take it to the range to investigate the no moon clip aspect. It worked really well and as a result it followed me home.

I KEEP MY BULLDOG .45 COLT HANDY (IN A SAFE RATHER THAN IN THE HIDDEN VAULT) ALONG WITH 97 LOADED ROUNDS FOR IT (STARLINE BRASS, WLP PRIMERS, 250gr MATT'S WC AND 7.7grs OF TRAIL BOSS). NICE GUN BUT FOR FIELD USE I GENERALLY GO TO FULL SIZE 45 COLTS.

I never card for any Charter Arms revolver, they look cheaply built!

One of those 45 ACPs in black oxide could have me reaching for my wallet.

Well, they ARE!
Probably why Smith and Ruger are copying their features now.
Looks are one thing.
They have all been accurate for me and have stood up to a lot of use, plus they are very compact.

A LGS just posted a new Pitbull 45 acp. Looks interesting... not sure about the caliber though as in it's a non-moon clip 45 acp revolver. Maybe I'll get my curiosity satisfied if'n I can make it over there this week.
New price is about $425.
I'd have jumped on a 44 Special model.
