Navydmo-
I am impressed! Do you get similar results with lighter cast bullets (different loadings, I realize). I suppose what I'am asking is if you get similar results from different bullets and loads from this gun?
Thanks also to all the rest for the information.

FINALLY had the opportunity to shoot the 340s (w 19.0 H110) today. All went well except the new R-P cases. In every case, the plating near the end of the cases came off. One case split (Redhawk). I shot these in a SS Redhawk and a Bisley Blackhawk.
Bad / inferior cases? Primers looked good. Any ideas?

In John Linebaugh's articles on the 45 Colt he says the Remington brass is pretty soft.
I have had good luck using Starline and some Federal brass that I have. After a Winchester case split on me with a starting load with a 250 grain RNFP over 6.5 grains WW231, I took some FA 454 Casull brass and trimmed it down to 45 Colt length and worked up a load with 22 grains WW296 with the CP 335 grain WLNGC bullet. A 6 shot string averaged 1211 fps from my 5.5" Bisley.
The Hodgdon website lists their MAX of 23.5 grains H110 with the CP 335 grain bullet. Some may think there may be more room to go in this load development, but I don't see the need.

Yep, Remington brass is known for being soft. Now you mentioned the plating came off....I assume you're shooting nickel cases? If so, I'd recommend plain brass (Starline being the best). Everytime I've tried nickel with heavy loads, case life has been terrible. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Forgot to ask....are you using the SSK 340? If so, you'll want to stay around 19.0 for max. The Cast Performance 335s are shorter due to the nose and will take a few more grains. -Lee www.singleactions.com

....are you using the SSK 340? I don't know what you mean by "SSK". These are the Beartooth 340 g LNFGCs. Prolly no more R-P nickel cases...... Look like hell, don't they?

Mark....if I read the subject line I would've known they were Beartooth. Sorry for the confusion. SSK is JD Jones' old design (longer nose, smaller meplat. -Lee www.singleactions.com

No problem. I was thinking there was something else I needed to learn in addition to 'meplat', 'obturation', etc. as in my SSK is bigger than your SSK.

These are similar to the JD Jones SSK design:
