Wondering if the gun shop will send it back to S&W ?? They were checking with the distributor to see what procedure to use. Back to distributor or S&W...

Not sure what Huey is talking about - it looks fine to me: ***** These chamber ridges are to headspace brass trimmed to arbitrary lengths for the kitchen table experimenter. Note that no two chambers appear the same. This allows multiple different case lengths for each chamber. The ,manufacturer forgot to number case length options for each chamber. Is that a chamfer at the root of the forcing cone? David Bradshaw The Focing Cone most certainly appears to be chamfered almost to the point of being crowned...

Having been a QC manager, and 42 year machinist I don't know how this could have ever gotten by the many steps in the QC inspecting process, if there actually is one at S&W now.
It makes me wonder if someone grabbed a cylinder out of the scrap bin for some reason and slapped it together. All that metal machining debris and the obvious lack of deburring makes me think this.

Having looked at it some more I think the cylinder was rejected after a boring tool had failed and subsequently it never made it to a finish reamer, deburring and final inspection. But it still got assembled anyway and missed final inspection. More than one person messed this gun up.

That was my thoughts as well. At least the part about the complete lack of QC. My shop got in a fair selection of S&Ws. All have issues with fit and finish...

Seems the reality we deal with these days. Had this gun gone for a "Professional" Review, it would have been quietly returned for a hand picked one.
All we would have read is "these guns are wonderful."
At the same time, if you'd ordered one of these and got one like this, it would be the buyer's problem.
This is the same issues we saw with Colt prior to the CZ Takeover. I can't say a lemon won't slip by CZ. But, I can tell you that the Colt Quality I'm seeing now is top notch.
There are some brands I'll order feeling comfortable, then there are other brands...

I've always had great luck just calling the S&W factory and getting pre-paid shipping; half a dozen times.
This cylinder would surely be replaced. But I haven't had to ship one back to the mothership in years. I normally buy older, used models and get to fully check them out. My experience even complaining of stiff triggers has been excellent. They called and asked me what DA and what SA weight I wanted.

Something definitely smells bad here. Went out front and picked one up off the shelf. Looks like this..

If this one had a cylinder like that, it would've had a new home...

Dang that first gun looked like they used a 1/8NPT tap to ream the chambers!

maybe it was a reject, & got tossed to a scrap bin, & the thrower missed the scrap bin, & some "do gooder" or clean up person knew it shouldn't be on the floor, & placed it in the cylinder bin??? but, I can't imagine that going out looking like that
