ONE OF MY FAVORITE VINTAGE HOLSTER STYLES IS THE LAWRENCE 122. I HAVE SEVERAL OF THEM, MOST, MAYBE ALL, FOR THE RUGER SINGLE SIX FRAME, BUT THEY USUALLY FIT THE COLT SAA VERY WELL AND, IIRC, MY 5.5" MODEL 97 ALSO FITS WELL IN THEM. BEING A HOLSTER PICKER I COULD NOT PASS UP A 122LB (LACED AND BASKET STAMPED), FOR A 5.5" RUGER SINGLE SIX, FOR $88.10 DELIVERED. ABOVE IS A PICTURE OF THE 122LB HOLSTERING A 1920's 5.5" COLT SAA IN 32-20, WEARING VINTAGE IVORIES. OF COURSE A 5.5" SINGLE SIX ALSO FITS WELL IN IT. THE HOLSTER IS IN EXCELLENT SHAPE. BOB WRIGHT WILL LIKE THIS: THE 122's HAVE A NEUTRAL CANT. NO RETENTION STRAP OR THONG.

BELOW IS A PICTURE OF A 122F (FLORAL CARVED) ALSO FOR A 5.5" RUGER SINGLE SIX, SHOWN WITH A RUGER SINGLE SIX WEARING HOLLY GRIPS BY SIXSHOT. THIS HOLSTER IS A TAD SHORTER THAN THE 122LB AND IS TOO SHORT FOR THE 5.5" COLT SAA BUT A 4 5/8ths" COLT SAA FITS VERY WELL IN IT.

HERE ARE BOTH HOLSTERS, WHICH 1 WOULD YOU CHOOSE FOR YOUR RUGER 5.5" SINGLE SIX?

Both are beautiful but that floral carving is especially nice.

ABOVE IS A PICTURE OF THE BACKSIDE OF BOTH HOLSTERS, BOTH ARE 122's BUT THE SIZING MARKINGS ARE DIFFERENT (PROBABLY FROM DIFFERENT ERAS). THE 122F IS SIZE 579 (RUGER SINGLE SIX 5.5") WHILE THE 122LB IS SIZED R6 5 1/2, WHICH I BELEVE TO BE 5.5" RUGER SINGLE SIX.

The 122 is beautiful. Your examples are excellent, obviously.
Doc Barranti used to offer a faithful representation of it. Unfortunately it is not listed anymore.

Damn. Can't decide. Both look perfect to my eyes. I've got three Single Sixes -'57, '58, and '72) and not a shuck between 'em.

GUNNY: I HAVE THE SHUCKS BUT HAVE NOT CARRIED A SINGLE SIX AFIELD IN 50 YEARS. KEEP THINKING OF PUTTING THE 22MAG CYLINDER ON MY 5.5" SINGLE SIX AND GIVING IT SOME FIELD TIME.

You can’t go wrong for $88.10. They’re both super nice holsters, but that basket weave would be my pick.

I agree. A 22 Mag would be the smallest I would take into the woods around here. So, for now I'll have to just stick with my minimum of a .357 (got a holster for it). That is until I find a specimen such as what you've teased me with on this thread. Darn you.

45MAN.... excellent phots, and it’s always good to show the back of the holster as well. The basket stamped Lawrence is a complete aesthetic statement, attested to by fine lacing and laced loop band. Whereas, the wide band detracts from th floral rig. While I never cared for partial trigger guard support----it makes for an ambivalent draw----it is a tradition. David Bradshaw

Well, it's been a couple of months since 45MAN put a burr under my saddle with his George Lawrence holsters. Last weekend I went to a gun show in Heber Springs. There, an older gentleman had a large gray Rubbermaid tub full of holsters with a sign saying, "AS IS $35.00 EACH". I found this and thought it was a decent buy. My question to 45MAN... Did you restore/refurbish your holsters? If so, with what and HOW?
