"Looks virtually unfired..." "Virtually" being the key word here.. You guys remember when ALL new S&W revolvers obviously had three rounds fired through alternating chambers. Even if "unfired" this one is from that era of time.. ***** S&W revolvers I saw tested were function fired, double action, on all chambers. Perhaps you refer to blue pills. And I don’t know whether a particular model might have its own protocol. David Bradshaw

Update on the box. S&W book says the gun was made 80/81... Pulled the box liner and see 01/81 stamped inside...

VERY hard to find gun...congratulations...the 629s were only P&R the first year of production...
Back when the 629 came out my best friend bought one with a 6" barrel....later had S&W put a leftover 5" Classic full underlug barrel on it that was Ma-Na-Ported for a distributor special...was one of the smoothest shooting .44s I have ever shot...

This gun predates the Endurance Package the 29 and 629 guns switched to in the 80s right? Not that it would matter to me for the loads I would ever run in it.
One of the real holes in my safe is a 4” 29, it is the classic of classic guns for full sized double actions to me.

Pulled the original hammer, trigger, and springs out and put them in the box.... Took Numrich parts and modified them a bit... Installed with Wilson springs. FWIW the virtually unfired status perpetuates itself. Could not see a wear mark anywhere under the side plate. That WILL BE corrected ASAP.
