Does the fact that it hard as heck to find make it more desirable? These photos by this maker don't help. I hit ebay every now and then and never see much more than knife scales. As someone who's in the telco industry I pipe dream about opening a creaky door someday and finding a big pile. I sold an FA97 rounded grip frame with that on it, it kinda hurt.

I found some that might be similar and ordered it I’ll know this week. It may be a bit paler but it definitely big and thick enough. Maker knife materials, winds up with old stuff I search them every once in a while.

Most of my FA have black Micarta and two with the standard wood...the last one I bought was an early 97/.224-.32 that has an octagon barrel and the "ivory" Micarta stocks...
Have seen several new 97s for sale lately with the ivory stocks on them so am wondering if FA had a stash somewhere...

Zane, is that a remnant of the block I traded out a few years ago and you used for my Horvath Lil Gun? Looks vaguely familiar...

That’s the color 97 grips should always be! Looks great.

I spoke to Bob a couple weeks ago and he said they had some of the Tan Micarta "right now." I was sending an Early 83 back for a complete refurbish and requested the Tan Micarta Grips. Lori told me this morning that work had started on my gun...

Fit to perfection.
I’ve never understood the micarta scarcity problem. Surely it can’t be hard to replicate?

It is still being made but no longer by Westinghouse... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MicartaSeems to be tons of Micarta knife scale material out there as it can be found at many knife making supply dealers...finding blocks big enough for SA grips much harder...

Norplex, manufacturer of Micarta, lists USA Knifemakers along with Jantz as authorized resellers.

I purchased a 1.25" x 6" x 12" block of the Norplex Ultrex from USA Knifemakers. It looks exactly like the material as shown by lscg in his initial post. It's most definitely NOT like the old Westinghouse "ivory" Micarta of '80s vintage. That old material was described as a paper laminate, and had no discernable layering. It was fairly white as new, and yellowed over many weeks or months depending on exposure to UV. Even after stabilizing at some degree of "yellowed", it still lacked any noticeable grain. To me, it was much more ivory-like. Regardless, this new material will look good on a blue BH Bisley .45 Colt.
