I became a big fan of the spring loaded front sight the first time I got one with it. Really makes easy to change it out for different shooting situations.

AFAIK, Ruger first came out with that type of spring loaded front sight on the original Redhawk. I think it's a brilliant idea and I'm surprised that many other manufacturers have not standardized on it.

That spring loaded front sight came out on the original GP back in the 80s.

I think it's a brilliant idea and I'm surprised that many other manufacturers have not standardized on it. Smith & Wesson has a spring-loaded front sight on their larger revolvers. The blades are different but the push-to-change feature is the same. Freedom Arms has interchangeable sight blades that use a long set screw in place of a spring and plunger. Not sure if anybody else has a similar set-up. A roll-pin works fine and is, of course, the simplest and cheapest solution to produce.

The GP100 is probably my favorite double action revolver, I stick to six shot versions as the sole seven shot I owned years back was problematic with very sticky cases.
