BACK IN THE LATTER PART OF THE 2Oth CENTURY, BEFORE RUGER CHAMBERED THE REDHAWK IN 45 COLT, I SENT JOHN LINEBAUGH A 5.5" SS REDHAWK IN 44 MAG TO BE CONVERTED TO 45 COLT. JOHN RECHAMBERED THE CYLINDER TO VERY TIGHT 45 COLT SPECS, HAD THE BARREL REBORED TO 45 AND REMARKED THE BARREL. I ADDED A CUSTOM FS AND A BOWEN RS. JOHN WAS NOT OFFERING ANY "GUSSY IT UP" SERVICES FOR THE REDHAWK SO AFTER I GOT IT I SENT IT KEN KELLY AT MNP TO HAVE IT MNP'ed, INVERTED MUZZLE CROWN, POLISHING/JEWELING, ACTION JOB, TRIGGER STOP, etc. TO ELIMINATE SOME LIGHT HAMMER STIKES I CHANGED OUT TO A HEAVIER SPRING. THIS REVOLVER IS A SHOOTING SOB! I HAVE TAKEN A 5x5 ELK, A TROPHY SIKA BUCK, A BIG BOAR HOG AND A BUNCH OF EXOTIC DOES WITH IT. IT HAS ACCOMPANIED ME AS MY BACKUP GUN ON SEVERAL ALASKAN AND AFRICAN HUNTS. LATER I WILL POST PICTURES OF THIS FINE REVOLVER.
WHEN JOHN SENT ME THE REVOLVER HE INCLUDED A NICE HANDWRITTEN LETTER AND 2 PAGES OF 45 COLT LOAD DATA. THE PURPOSE OF THIS THREAD IS TO SHARE WITH YOU THE LETTER AND THE LOAD DATA.

With any of the above loads, that should be 5000 pass-throughs!

I like his comment: "I'm a nuts & bolts working gun man"
That one line alone speaks volumes about the man.

IN THE INFO PROVIDED BY JOHN HE NOTED THAT HIS FAVORITE LOAD FOR STOCK RUGERS WITH 310 KEITH/320 LBT BULLETS WAS 23.5grs OF H-110 (W296). USING THE ORIGINAL FEDERAL CASES AND FEDERAL MAGNUM PISTOL PRIMERS HE RATED THESE AT 1,350fps IN A 7.5" RUGER.
ON MY OWN, AND WITHOUT THIS LINEBAUGH INFO IN HAND OR IN MY MEMORY BANK, I RECENTLY WORKED UP A LOAD FOR A 5.5" BRAD SHERMAN 5 SHOT RUGER "NIMROD STYLE", BISLEY IN 45 COLT. USING THE 320gr BLUE BULLET FROM BLUE BULLETS, TOP BRASS BRASS, FEDERAL 155M PRIMERS, AND 23.5 grs OF W296, ON 1/25/23, IN 60 DEGREE TEMPS, THE LOAD CHRONOED 1,241fps. THE GUN CAN TAKE A WHOLE LOT MORE BUT AT MY AGE (79) ARTHRITIS HAS AFFECTED MY HAND STRENGTH AND I CANNOT HOLD ON LIKE I USE TO. ANYWAY, I TRY TO KEEP MY CAST SOLIDS LOADS AT 1,300fps AND UNDER IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN BULLET INTEGRITY, SO I WAS MORE THAN HAPPY WITH THE MV AND ACCURACY OF THIS LOAD.
IN WARMER TEMPS AND IN A 7.5" BARREL I MAY HAVE GOTTEN 1,350fps. LIKE OFTEN SAID, THERE IS VERY LITTLE THAT IS NEW, WE JUST KEEP REINVENTING THE SAME WHEEL.

Rey, your arthritis must be holding up pretty good, those loads would knock over my Jeep! Good stuff.

WENT TO MY RANGE ON THE RIO GRANDE THIS MORNING (5/20/23) TO TRY SOME OF LINEBAUGH's 13grs OF HS-6 LOADS. IN STARLINE NICKELED CASES, USING A 320gr BLUE BULLETS COATED CAST BULLET, I TESTED LOADS WITH CCI 300 PRIMERS AND FEDERAL 150 PRIMERS, IN THE BOWEN HEAVY BARRELED, PORTED, 5 SHOT REDHAWK PICTURED ABOVE. THE LOADS WITH THE 150's GROUPED NOTICEABLY BETTER AND WERE PRETTY DARN GOOD. GOING TO LOAD 30 OF THESE FOR FINAL GROUP TESTING/SIGHTING IN. PER LINEBAUGH's NOTES, IN THIS 4.2" REDHAWK, BUT WITH ONLY ABOUT 3" OF RIFLED BARREL, I SHOULD BE GETTING 1,000-1,050fps FOR A VERY MANAGEABLE, BUT EFFECTIVE, CLOSE RANGE STOPPER/FINSHER. FOR HEAVIER REDHAWK LOADS I WILL STICK WITH NY 5.5" LINEBAUGH 6 SHOT REDHAWK. I ALSO TOOK MY JRH CUSTOM 6 SHOT 5.5" RUGER BISLEY PICTURED ABOVE. I HAVE ABOUT 600 OF THE CAST & LUBED MONTANA BULLET WORKS RCBS 270gr SAA SWC BULLETS THAT I NEED TO FIND A USE FOR. FOR THESE 13grs LOAD I USED TOP BRASS HEADSTAMPED BRASS AND LOADS WITH THE CCI 300's AND THE FEDERAL 150's. THE BISLEY LIKED THE CCI 300's BETTER AND SHOT PRETTY DARN GOOD. GOING TO LOAD 30 OF THESE FOR FINAL GROUP TESTING/SIGHTING IN. PER LINEBAUGH's NOTES, THIS LOAD IN THIS GUNSHOULD BE GETTING ME AROUND 1,100fps, AN EXCELLENT, ALL AROUND, EVERY DAY, MANAGEABLE LOAD.

WENT BACK TO MY RANGE ON THE RIO GRANDE THIS MORNING (5/21/23). THE JRH CUSTOM 6 SHOT BISLEY IS SIGHTED IN WITH THE RCBS270SAA/13grs HS-6/TOP BRASS BRASS/CCI 300's LOAD. NOT MY MOST ACCURATE 45 COLT LOAD BUT ACCURATE ENOUGH TO JUSTIFY SHOOTING UP THE 525 OR SO OF THE REMAINING BULLETS THAT I HAVE.
FOR THE HEAVY BARRELED 5 SHOT BOWEN REDHAWK I HAVE DECIDED TO SWITCH TO WINCHESTER BRASS AND TRY THE 320gr BLUE BULLET OVER 13grs OF HS-6 USING CCI 300's AND FEDERAL 150's. THE BLUE BULLET HAS A SOLID SHANK (NO LUBE GROOVE) AND STARLINE 45 COLT CASES HAVE THICK WALLS AND USING THE LEE CARBIDE FACTORY CRIMP DIE IS NOT AN EASY STEP, PLUS I WANT TO SAVE THE STARLINE NICKELED CASES PRIMAIRILY FOR MY S&W LOADS.
WINCHESTER IS DAMN GOOD BRASS AND I HAVE 650 UNFIRED CASES. WHEN I WAS LOADING 45 COLT TO 454 LEVELS FOR USE IN A 45 COLT MODEL 83 CYLINDER I WAS USING WINCHESTER BRASS.
