OTHER THAN SHOOTING AT THE CAMP RANGE, SHOOTING IN CAMP IS PROHIBITED. THOUGHT ABOUT BAITING WITH CORN CLOSE BY BUT WE ARE REQUIRED TO RECOVER ALL KILLS, EVEN HOGS, AND I WOULD NOT WANT TO GET NEAR THAT DIRTY MF'er MUCH LESS RECOVER HIM AND TAKE HIM BACK TO CAMP. HE HAS BECOME A CAMP ODDITY. GOOD SIZED HOG, WAS ABLE TO GET CLOSE TO HIM, WOULD BE AN EASY SHOT WITH ANYTHING. DID NOT SEE ANY IVORY ON IT, NOTHING TO TEMPT ME.
WILD HOGS, NOT ALL BUT MANY, CAN BE GOOD TABLE FARE, BUT IF I SUSPECT, OR KNOW, THAT THEY HAVE BEEN EATING CARREON, THEY WILL NEVER MAKE IT TO THE TABLE.

Nope. Not me. I would ask the boss for special permission on that one. You have a good backstop. Use the biggest gun you have or can borrow. Personally if I wanted to drop him where he is or very close to it, I would put a 375 H&H handload right through both shoulders. I have long said if you want to kill a big boar, hunt over a gut pile. Uuhg, what a thing.

Y’all have named him haven’t you? So he has become a type of camp pet in a way.

He is providing a service, you don’t harass your local garbage collectors.

Actually, it's well documented that the swine species can & will eat meat.

After having been involved at the forefront or major push of the 80’s in trying to control them in S Texas I’ve learned that they are truly opportunistic and WILL eat practically anything they can fit in their mouth.

Actually, it's well documented that the swine species can & will eat meat. Yep, we have domestic hogs (Mangalitsa) and I saw them catch a chicken and scarf it down in a matter of 20-30 seconds Yep had a hog that we were raising and we started knockin old roosters in the head and feeding him. But after awhile he would sit in one corner of the pen and watch his corn and goatmilk we were feeding him. When a chicken wondered in and started eating he would pounce like a cat. He was 300 lbs and could clear 8-10 feet across the pen and snatch a chicken. The worst part was the cruching sound. Once he did that a time or two he got the ol brain scrambled with a 357. Heard once they had a taste for blood they could smell it through your skin. Not one I would like wondering around.

I recall reading stories of youngsters that would go out to feed the pigs and get knocked down and disappear. Finding nothing but a boot or muddy shirt, a coworker has his kids feed from the outside of the pen at all times. Whenever someone needs to go inside pen, always do so with a spotter.

I had one drag a doe I shot off into the swamp in FL before I got to it. Hog ate the top of its head off to get the brains…. SPOOKY going in there and dragging the deer out.
Was sure he was somewhere a-watching me….it was dark…

I have a buddy who has tried to manage hogs on his Texas property for years. He shoots and leaves an awful lot of them every year, has all the pork in the freezer he cares for and can always get more. But he told me a carcass never lasts more than a few days before the other pigs make them disappear completely.
Commented one time you could make a body vanish pretty easily if the need should arise…
