Hey woody, sorry for the Hi-jack in case trimmer thread. As I stated there, I had cataract surgery in 2018 or19 and a follow up laser surgery in 2021 as my vision was becoming cloudy, see link below. The laser looks like you are playing a laser video shooter game as Dr. does it and only take a couple minutes and done. I had the monofocal implants which require glasses for computer/reading. I wish I had paid the premium then for a multifocal implant and done away with the glasses, but my hindsight isn't 20/20. The Macular hole surgery(vitrectomy)I had was probably not caused by the cataract surgery. I would recommend the cataract surgery to anyone eligible, and probably with the implants not needing glasses after surgery for shooting open sights. I have some corrective safety glasses from SSP Eyewear with the bifocal lenses placed in the top of the glasses for shooting open sights. These are sets of different color lenses with placement of the bifocal in different locations. Hope this helps anyone here thinking about having it done! Eric, my apologies for being a part of hijacking your good thread.
You know where to find me if I can be of any service.

Cataracts here too. Only bother me at night. Old men need to stay home at night anyway. When I do have them fixed I'm not doing the hotdawg lense thing. I've worn glasses for 58 years. When I see the nicks and scratches on the glasses I know that they do much more than just correct my vision.

Same here, my Dr. says don't do anything until they get bad enough to bother me all the time. I too notice them more when driving at night. Reflections on road signs look pretty weird but I can still read them.

Well had first eye done 20 years ago or so cause the grouups were growing due to all the scopes being invaded with somekind of fuuzz, next eye lasted for another 7 or 8 years, but I wonder what this malady is that causes feet to grow in size height to grow down hearing to go somewhere else and the back to complain most of the time. Have a nice day Don K Maybe I should add the big A which gets in way of clean trigger pull.

I had both eyes worked on last May two weeks apart and have been well satisfied with the outcome. Easiest surgery I have ever had. Once the pre-op preparation was done and I in the surgical theater and the Surgeon started the procedure it only took about 15 minutes. Because of the ultra-sonic device used in the procedure to detach and remove your naturally grown lens you may experience some almost psychedelic visual effects similar to sparks flying off a campfire and/or Easter egg dye swirling in a bowl before you. It is short lived though and does not re-occur until you have the second eye worked on. It appears customary to fit new lenses for distance vision thus close up wearable glasses will likely be needed and because of the light disbursement of the cataract when doing pre-op eye exam in which your new lens is prescribed the post op vision may still need minor correction with glasses. I have had a number of what you could call major surgeries and frankly this is your vision we are talking about and I was scared! But, as I always say to the surgeon, "don't let fear stop me, get on with it." This was by far the easiest surgery I have ever had and now feel a bit foolish about being so overly concerned. But, as they say, Your mileage may vary.

Here guys I started a thread for cataracts. ..only wish I had Buicks... Mine started in 2014 right after a GREAT trip to Idaho... Was going to get surgery last year but decided to try glasses first...so far they have saved me the trouble... At night in the rain with an oncoming vehicle with LED headlights is the only real problem...have been able to deal with everything else... People say it's tough to get old...I always respond that it's really tough not getting older...several of my long time best friends could attest to that...if they could that is... Bob

Over the past year or so I have noticed that my distance vision was changing, but not for worse but for better. In fact I had to dig out some older frames with a prescription from several years ago. While they helped I was still experiencing an out of focus condition.
Wednesday my I talked to my eye doctor about it and he said that if my blood sugar A1C was the same and stable it was probably my cataracts. He took a good look at them and said they were a good deal darker and suggested that that was probably the reason for the improvement so he has issued a new prescription but told me not to confident that it was going to solve my problem with my eyes. He said if the cataracts worsen he will no longer be able to correct my vision to 20/20. At that point cataract surgery will be called for and said I would not believe how much better I'll be able to see.
So, I have between 6 months and 3 years, by his guess, as to when I'll be asking the surgery.
Just an FYI in case anyone else is experiencing anything like this.

Update, I qualified for cataract surgery this morning. It'll be nice to be able to see clearly again.
Update #2, scheduled for surgery on Nov. 11th and December 2nd. I can hardly wait!

Mine started in October of 2014 just after a several month trip out west...
They developed very slowly and were correctable with glasses so the insurance would not pay to have them done... Finally in the summer of 2023 I was eligible but delayed too long...by the time I had them done this past September I was about legally blind in my left eye...
Sight came back to 2014 levels...20/20+. Just got the basic lenses and only need 1.75 cheaters for small print up close...
