I make what I call buffalo bouncers. Bison can take a lot. I just load a commercial cast semiwadcutter in 45 Colt cases with 3 gr 231. I paint the head. They run from 280-300 FPS. I have most of a box of 50 shot and never had a problem. When I need to get their attention, I use these. Dirt flies out of their hide and they get going. Have even shot them in the forehead. For southern cattle I would back off a bit. Maybe down to 200 FPS if you can get a load to function down that low. As always, you don’t want to stick one in the barrel. You I have to aim high and it’s easy to see the bullet. I think they would ignore less power.
