I had been hunting my hardwoods all week and had not been seeing much activity besides a small basket rack 8 point chasing 3 does. Friday evening I hunted a very thick area on my property and had 6 does come up behind me with one directly under me. I could hear her stomping her hoof on the ground when at least one of the other does winded me, ending my hunt. So I decided to try that area again and got on stand about 3:30 but facing the opposite direction expecting the deer to come out of bedding from the same direction. At 5:00 I heard movement off to my right (upwind) and very soon two large does came into view heading on a path that would have them cross from right to left directly in front of me at about 15 yards. I let the first one get by me as I was attempting to get my 6.5" Ruger Super Redhawk with it's ancient Aimpoint 2000 on target. Being a little late getting on her allowed her to turn away from me so I decided to go for her twin. I stopped her, set the red dot just behind her shoulder about mid body and touched off a factory Hornady 325 XTP. She didn't react traditionally with a hard bucking kick but ran immediately and straight away for about 30 yards before piling up. I only had to drag her about 60 yards since she ran towards my powerline right of way after the shot. It was a perfect hunt and I'm glad I did it with my 480. I was hunting out of a Summit Goliath climber on a pine tree about 20' off the ground. I carry my SRH in a cheap (no name) but American made shoulder rig that I got off Amazon. NW Chester county, SC. First pic, I'm pointing at where I stopped her before the shot. Exit wound

Great hunt, looking at the photos looks like it would have been hard to track her, if the sight of blood bothered you.

Great hunt, looking at the photos looks like it would have been hard to track her, if the sight of blood bothered you. Actually, since the shot was a bit high she didn't start leaving much blood for 15 yards or so. But she piled up within sight so no.tracking was necessary.
